Castrol vs. Mobile 1??????
I've been using Castrol since day one and has worked just fine for me. However, I do see and hear a lot about how Mobile 1 is good as well. Just curious on what you guys thought about this.......
Who has used both and noticed a difference if any?
Thanks.

Re: Castrol vs. Mobile 1?????? (F00LI0)
They could actually be the same.
Castrol (as well as Pennzoil, Quaker State, NAPA, etc.) does not make their own oil. They buy it from a larger refinery company and specify their own custom additive package. Exxon/Mobil, Shell and Valvoline are the biggest oil companies, so it comes from one of them.
Plus, all oil must meet SAE SL standards. Regardless which one you use, it has to meet at least the minimum requirements for protection. Synthetics usually go well beyond those.

john force uses castrol on his 5/4 second drag car.. so works for me...now that beats the corvette statement
but then again.. pennzoil claims they went to the moon with theres.. dunno if any of that is true.. but they did do a comparason on oil... on TV.. technically.. you cant compare anything on TV " product wise" saying .. this is better then the other..unless its true, they said its better then castrol...but castroll full sythetic never went bad on me...i back that up with 2 turbo cars on it already

Mobil 1 for me...I've used it for years and never had any problems...it's largely a matter of preference...the most important thing is changing oil on time every time...

I used to praise mobil 1. Switched to castrol syntec and i haven't burnt any oil yet. Mobil 1 would burn a tad after some "spiritied" driving.

Royal Purple is a pretty expensive oil for my liking...... I guess just stick with what u have been using and that has not failed your expectations on motor oil!

Re: Castrol vs. Mobile 1?????? (LS60-1)
I used to use mobil 1. Stopped after 15k miles because it just got really expensive. Currently back to Castrol GTX. It is much much cheaper and I can change it more often.

Re: Castrol vs. Mobile 1?????? (Tenzo R)
I just changed my oil today and got Valvoline full synthetic AND WOOOOHOOO VALVOLINE RULES! I vote it the best oil IMO. Have had Mobile 1 in past with a V6 Honda Accord didnt see as much difference as i saw with Valvoline.....

Re: Castrol vs. Mobile 1?????? (jstyle)
An article I wrote awhile back concerning B18C motors losing oil while using sythetic (also applies to all honda motors):
----------------------------------------
B18Cs in general are known to lose some amount of oil when switching over to synthetic from dino oil. Or using synthetic oil for break-ins. In most cases, this is generally true with Mobil1. I am not degrading Mobil1 oils in any ways, infact, I highly recommend it.
Dino oils or Mineral oils leave deposits in your car that have an effect on your seals. Overtime, these deposits act as seals themselves with the (sludge deposits)helping your engine maintain its proper oil level.
Synthetics have cleaning detergents in them so when switching over to it...it cleans out the mess left behind by dino oil. If you notice a loss in oil level after a couple hundred miles of driving...it is usually an indication that your seals need replacement.
If not too worn or damaged, the seals inside your engine will cure overtime.
It is also good to replace the cam seal or "cheap" plastic honda cam plug (I replaced mine with the STR cam seal, about $25-30 at most aftermarket auto/Internet stores---wise investment) if you notice leaks near the distributor cap, its a good time to replace it or if your engine has been abused by constant racing and high revving.
----------------------------------------
Just remember folks, once you go synthetic, theres no going back to using DINO oil....unless....
I recommend:
MOBIL 1 synthetic
and for those who do not want to pay for synthetic oils like Mobil 1 but still want somethine better than the OE counterpart...try:
Castrol Syntec Blend...affordable.
cheers

Re: Castrol vs. Mobile 1?????? (NightRider-gsR)
Yeah, i'll vouch for that. Mobil 1 is expensive but worth it. I've been using Mobil 1 in my 90 Integra and my car had 130,000 miles when I bought it. Now it's at 186,000 miles. I never had any problem with it. I did all the necessary test compression and leakage. All came out good. A guy that got a 01 Prelude offer me to buy my car off of me. I said no.
My friend been using Castrol in his car for years. He likes it because it's cheaper than buying Mobil 1.
