97 Civic has idle and starting problems
I have a 1997 civic LX with the d16 with the throttle body that points straight up. I changed the plugs, wires, O2 sensors, alternator and battery so far to no avail. Its only on cold start and idles fine when it warms up. I also find that turning the key and waiting for the fuel pump to build pressure and turn off then repeat the key stroke and it turns right on, if I don't, it doesn't start. I think its a fuel issue, but I don't want to keep replacing **** that doesn't help. Fuel filter is going to be replaced asap.
Fuel filter changed, timing is fine. there is currently 7 codes being thrown:
p1298
p0135
p0141
p0301
p0302
p1300
p1399

Re: 97 Civic has idle and starting problems
I have kind of a similar issue with the cold then when warm it idles okay... Check that your ignition timing is not off and do a rotor and cap change... If it cranks but not start it could be ignition related.
In my case I think I wet my dizzy and moisture caused it to bog, idle bad and sometimes die when the idle drops to 0. Replacement motor coming though. Had a rod knock last summer.

Re: 97 Civic has idle and starting problems
The light isn't on but when I told it for emissions, it threw 5 codes, O2 sensors (both), speed sensor, cylinder #1 missfire and one misc one. O2 sensors were changed and I reset the ecu, been at work all day and havent had a chance to see if it comes back.
It seems everyone thinks I should check timing, so that will be tomorrow.

It has both brand new O2 sensors. The one thing that really effects the idle is resetting the ecu while its idling, it goes to a smooth normal idle, not a choppy nasty idle. I'm thinking it has a bad ecu or bad wire somewhere. any suggestions?
