Default make shift dust free paint room

when body shops paint cars, or car parts, they are suppose to paint it in a "dust free" environment. i do not have one of those rooms and in the near future i will be buying a front bumper that more than likely i have to repaint to my car's color. i do not have a dust free environment to paint it in but i do have a garage to use.

i got to thinking that maybe if i soak the garage with water it will make the dust stick to the floor, or the walls if i got that wet also. do you guys this will work? ive seen this method used in mines to keep the dust levels less than usual.

i do not have a lot of money since i go to college and my schedule does not permit me to acquire a job so i do not have a lot of money to get others to do work on my car.

you could maybe try suspending plastic sheets from the ceiling? form a little bubble around your car or something?

I think its okay to do bumper or minor things for yourself, if you are painting as a business I think its illegal because you probably need to follow environmental guidelines with chemicals and clean up + the permits stuff.

Yup. You could get busted with an EPA violation and stuck with a fine up to 250,000 dollars or a year in jail. You gotta do something with the fumes and stuff like that properly.

If all your doing is a bumper just clean the garage good put some plastic up and on the floor and itll be fine also you can wetsand any dust out of the base coat with 2000 grit be careful though base is thin not very high build and then you can also sand the clear when your done to get all the dust out then just buff it out you need a good buffer though and the right pads a rubbing compound. Ive did 2 complete color changes in my garage now and lots of little things and they look good just clean it best you can and then sand the dust out. Good luck.

That's cool. Just be sure you have a fan to evacuate the fumes and wear a respirator for protection. Good lungs are important!
