Default 1997 accord - P0401 code, how to clean EGR ports?

Hey,

Does anyone know of a good how-to on how to clean these? I found a website howto here: http://www.freewebs.com/hondadude/95...5AccordEGR.htm

but the problem is my accord isn't like that one. It doesn't have the things in I circled in red: https://i.imgur.com/t0GJqC8.jpg neither of those lines are there, or that black valve or that connector looking piece off the black rail.

Its a EX trim with the V-TEC and what I thought was a f22b1 motor but I'm questioning that now... any help is really appreciated, I really don't want to have to take it to a shop but being related to the fuel line I'm weary to go into this without exact instructions

If you own a '94-97 USDM CD Chassis Accord, then this FAQ is correct. Although I would not bother with the carb cleaner, it just turns the soot into muck. Vacuum, various sizes of flat head screwdrivers work like a charm.

Is there a vacuum hose that bypasses/loops the two metal lines that normally feed that solenoid? Or is there no indication at all of anything ever existing?
As long as you have the divorced EGR manifold...

...located under the fuel rail.
I would not be concerned with those missing parts. If the EGR system was non functional more than likely the lift valve code(P1491) would also have appeared. One step I would add to that EGR DIY would be to purchase an EGR valve gasket. Remove the EGR valve and clean its base/pintle valve of carbon and soot built up. There won't be much, but if your car has over 200Kmiles on it, there will be a layer that can reduce total flow to the EGR manifold. Check/clean both ports in the manifold as well.

Stand in front of the car, look down where the engine and transmission connect, above where the front mount there will be a pad with a cast in alphanumeric code, it will be F22B1 or F22B2 for a USDM CD Accord.

If your car is non stock, or non USDM, it may have a different engine such as a F20, F23, etc.
