Quick Struts: Monroe vs Moog vs KYB
Hey guys I'm doing an overhaul (upper control arms/ball joints, outer tie rods, maybe lower ball joints) of my front suspension next weekend and looking for some advice on these brands of struts. Its for my 1996 EX with 133k and original struts.
From RockAuto
Question #1: For the price and quality which brand would you guys go with? The Accord is at stock height and I am just looking for a comfortable ride, as I will be doing extensive cross country traveling for work. Any stories with experience would be much appreciated.
Question #2: Monroe and Moog only have one part number for the "front" struts, while KYB has separate front right and front left part numbers. Are the front struts identical/interchangeable (I wouldn't think so)
From RockAuto
- Monroe: $88.99 each
- Moog: $97.79 each
- KYB: $115.79 Right and $102.79 Left

I kind of wanted to avoid compressing the springs if I can. Kind of wanted to make it a quick job, thus preferring quick-struts.
That is a pretty good deal though.

You don't need to replace the coils but that is your call. If your doing the front you should replace the rear as well.

Normally a lot of the other components are bad, thus necessitating a full strut assembly replacement rather than just the shocks. If you've already replaced the other components before and just need to change out the shocks then sure. But your best bet might be to just get the quick-strut, which will obviously save you a bit more time.
I've ordered from their website and I will tell you it was hell. It would be best to order over the phone, assuming they will let you use the coupon codes that you need to find before ordering.
Just do a google search for "just suspension coupon code" and plug in all different ones til you find the best discount.

from what ive heard monroe has a lifetime warranty so if you are gonna be doing extensive traveling i would go with the monroe, only because even after the recommended manufacturer change out of 50,000 miles for struts the monroes you can go as far as you want may it 50,000 100,000 or even 200,000 you can get them replaced at no cost!

KYB makes nice stuff. Monroe makes junk and survive on their name alone. Moog I can't comment on, but chances are someone else is making the shocks.
