Well I post this becauase I recently went from kyb agx to neuspeed koni sports,
on my eg hatch,
450f/350r coilover springs.

and at first I was a bit worried, because my car would actually bottom out easier
with the konis than the agx's.. I was thinking its because you cant adjust the compression stroke on the konis, but you can on the agx(and i had my agx still as ***).
Ride quality was def way beter with the konis.. but really bad potholes sometimes would just shove my wheel right up into my car

but anyways,
after a few weeks, it seems like the ride quality has gotten firmer.. but not in a bad way, it rides very comfy, but isnt bottoming out anymore, and everything just feels right.

SOOOO i'm just wondering if maybe the shocks just got broken in... or is it all in my head??

heh, thanks.

I don't know the actual truths behind it....

but whenever I put in new shocks, I raise the car up a bit, leave on medium dampening, and drive around for a couple hundred miles like that. Try not and put too much stress on them at first.

I doubt it does anything, but it does seem like they do break in after a little.

ahh,

yeah I did try to keep them set at lower stiffness at first,
so thats something at least, heh.

my suspensions wierd though... I cant RAISE it up any futher..
and it's dropped like 3" haha.

haha, I should hope i'm not that much of a goof!!

its actually just because I have extended strutmounts, AND my konis have a shortened piston rod.. so my piston rod functions like its like 2" shorter than stock.

But ANNNYYWAYS, back to the topic of breaking in shocks!!!!!

struts and spring(often called coils) do not need a breakin period.. the bottoming out part comes from the fact that the Koni (sport) struts have a longer piston shaft than the KYB's (for a lower overall ride height).. therefore the travel distance is shorter (longer shaft) .. and when you have a shorter distance, you needed to cut your bumpstop a little bit more to maximize the travel distance to minimize "bottoming out".. this refers to damper rates, spring rates... etc....

kinda confusing but it makes sense to me.. hope it helps.

I've got the full Koni coilovers on my hatch had them for about 9 mos. I have noticed the ride height to have settled a little bit and the suspension has tightened up some since then. But its also about 30 degrees or colder where I'm at so its been a little ruf

My Konis were pretty harsh when I first got 'em.

Couple hundred miles and they are great - or I got used to how firm they are, one of the two.

thnx 4 the input all.

anyone know for a fact if shocks have a breakin period?

just curious at this point, I think any brand new part has some sort of breakin period, but wondering if theres anything set in stone for shocks/struts

Maybe they just settle in their spots.

Never had a break in period with any shocks I've owned. I've always heard that from others and thought it was utter BS. If anything is "settling" it's probably the bushings tearing because they weren't clocked correctly.
