Car keys are locked in trunk!
I have a 1996 Honda civic del sol s and I think I locked my keys in my trunk! I have never seen a trunk release inside my car so I cant get in! Does anyone know how to get into the trunk?

I dont have a trunk release next to my gas release lever unless its really tiny or something but all I ave is a gas lever and a lock down there. I have been able to get into my car, just not the trunk.

Go to the Honda dealer with your ID, proof of ownership, and the VIN for the car. Get OEM key made for very cheap, like probably under $10. Unlock trunk. Now you have two keys so this won't happen again. Journey to a higher mental plane.

What would be considered proof of owning the car? I am out of town so I cant just go grab my title or anything. I just registered my car online but the new registration and stuff has not come in the mail yet so the registration I have in my car is out-of-date. Would they have my key on file or something at the honda dealership?

Oh wait - you're out of town ... well, someone will need to check your mailbox for the paperwork, unless you can go to a local branch of your DMV to get another copy printed off.

yeah I knew at least some 96 del sols had the trunk latch but mine doesnt have it at all. Instead of having the lever there, its just a big black box. Here is a pic:

could smash the pass side tailight and then u can get your hand in thru there to pull latch(use as last resort) if you have your license and registration you can go to dealer and get your key made

Well In my case when I did this my taillight was free floating on the bolts so I just pulled it out(fixed now). I would try getting on of those glass grabbing suction cups and pulling the tail light if you are that desperate. You might brake the tail light when pull it though Or if manage pull the tail light cut the foam unclip the harness or pull the bulbs and get a magnet on stick.

Re: Car keys are locked in trunk!
Sounds crazy but since I replaced my broken exterior door handles several times in del sols I would pull the interior door panel on either driver or passenger side of the car and remove the exterior door handle ( two 10 mm bolts and disconnect linkage) and remove the lock from the handle (easy) and bring it to a locksmith who will build a key ( same key as trunk). I've removed handles several times and can probably do it in a hour. It's good practice because if you own a civic long enough you will be replacing door handles ( inner & outer)

Re: Car keys are locked in trunk!
You can get those types of keys made at a dealership for literally $1.99 (at least here in Ohio). That's a lot easier/simpler than removing your lock cylinder. And no Honda does not have your key code "on file". It's looked up on Honda iN (Honda Interactive Network) on the internet. Some dealerships may be more lenient than others when it comes to proof of ownership.
