Windshield Wiper Fuse Issue
Jumped the motor, it runs off of battery.
When hooked up it blows the 20 amp fuse. Blows the fuse even when not on. The harness from the motor to the fuse box is very short and not really anywhere for it to get shorted except for the grommet section. Grommet section is good with visual inspection...
Any other thoughts on why it would continuously blow?
2000 dx hatch.

Re: Windshield Wiper Fuse Issue
Well the issue here is... I have a 00 dx (obd2b), i have an obd2a harness, with an obd2a dash harness, then the dash harness is repinned to obd2b plug where it goes into the cabin harness, i then have an obd2a cabin harness that i repinned to obd2b to match the dash plug, and then i have the original obd2a plug that's located at the quarter panel, but i have a jumper harness thats obd2a male, to obd2a female, to obd2b female, that goes to the rear harness that obd2b.
In a nut shell, there was lots of wiring changed up, and the original obd2b harness had a very large relay box on the dash harness... but obd2a does not have such a thing.
I honestly wouldn't know what relay to actually look for, unless its the same wiring colors as the motor/engine harness.
I am not sure off the top of my head if it blows with the ignition off. IIRC i tried with ignition on always, but tried wipers "off" and wipers "on" on the column control.
I tried various sized from 15amp, 20amp, to 25amp. Just to see if it would pop it, and it does instantly. (I understand you don't run higher amp fuses, i wasn't going to run it. Simply diagnostic reasons)
EDIT: Quick drawing of the wiring on my car.

Re: Windshield Wiper Fuse Issue
You have a short to ground.
1) Buy a box of 20A fuses.
2) 20A fuse 26 should only blow when the key is in the ON(II) position because the fuse gets voltage via the ignition switch. Verify this.
3) Shorts sometimes can be pinpointed by unplugging components in the circuit. Start by unplugging the switch on the steering column. Does the fuse still blow? If so, do the same unplug test on the integrated control unit and the wiper motor.

(2 pin relays like in the engine bay fuse box for the condenser fan etc)

Not sure what you are saying. The ICU should be located at the rear of the dash fuse box for both OBD2a and OBD2b. Just unplug its 10P connector.

Re: Windshield Wiper Fuse Issue
Ignition off - No pop
Column Switch Unplugged - Popped
Relay On Box Unplugg - No Pop (Wipers Went On w/ Switch Off)
So going from that... The relay on the box must be faulty.
Didn't think I was that incompetent with my wiring, glad its not my fault

Re: Windshield Wiper Fuse Issue
--- I have 2 spare fuse boxes in the garage from cars I parted out, so even then... No big deal. I never said anything about separating them, I'll try replacing the ICU first then if that doesn't work, I'll do the entire box. Glad to see the wipers working none the less, quite dangerous to rely on rainX.

Along with that I have an issue with my rear defroster not heating the back window, along with my dome light not working with door open, but bulb is good and light goes on when "on" position is selected. Either door, doesn't matter... Doesn't turn on when ajar.
Don't know it this faulty control until would effect any of the above.

Re: Windshield Wiper Fuse Issue
UPDATE: I put that new relay box in the box of the fuse box and... no difference. The fuse still pops as soon as i put power at the ignition...
So wipers only work when the control relay is unplugged... but then i can't control them and they are always on.
So idk where to go from here really. Maybe ohm out the wires starting at the engine bay plug, and to the plug at the relay box... and see which one if any might be shorted?

Re: Windshield Wiper Fuse Issue
UPDATE: I have all the wires cut on my wiper motor. So i could plug them in 1 by 1... I can plug everyone in without a problem except for 1... Its a BLUE wire with white stripe... Idk what it is for specifically... but thats the one causing the problem... If i leave all wires plugged in except for that, my windshield wiper works fine... just cant turn it off with the wiper switch, but i can control the speed...

Re: Windshield Wiper Fuse Issue
The Blu/Wht wire controls the park and intermittent wiper functions. I think the park mechanism in the motor is toast. I think that replacing the motor will solve the problem.

when you say
the issue was that blue wire. New/newused wiper fixed the problem. Stupid blue wire. Can you elaborate is it that a new wiper motor fixed the issue? my issue is the same i think it works only when i turn the car on the fuse blows
