Default 1990 Honda civic EF brake lights

Alright guys. I got a problem.

Break lights stay on.

I tried the little blue crayon fix, no joy.

Tightened the break light switch, no joy.

Unplugged the break light plug, and the break lights were still on.

How do I fix this.

I have no idea what that is...

Have you tried actually pressing the switch?

Brake light plug? Or the plug on the brake light switch? If they are still on with the switch disconnected then there has to be a short somewhere.

This would be my first thing to check:

Follows the directions in that thread, its what I meant with my original line. It didn't work. How would I diagnose a short?

Hard to explain, even worse if you're not good with electrical stuff already. If it were me, I'd look up the wiring diagram and see if there's anything up/down stream between the switch and battery as a source of power. Then I'd get in there and start looking around for visual issues. I'd probably use a multimeter to see if I can track down the source. I hope someone else has an easier way to help you out because I doubt anything I said helped at all.

Alright, well here's what I did.

The break stopper pedal is brand new.

The break switch (with the plug on the back of it, has the little pressure switch on the front that hits the break stopper) is fully depressed, I even made sure by loosening the nut and then tightening the switch.

I tried unplugging the plug on the back of said switch.

I also checked all the fuses on my dash fusebox, nothing is blown.

I'm very lost. meh.

Okay.

I put a new brake stopper pad in, and that didnt solve the problem.

So then I unplugged the plug that goes into the brake stopper switch -- but to no avail.

I'm at a loss for options here. I figure i might have a short -- but that would bypass the switch???
