Default My 1999 Honda Civic SiR EM1 Build Thread

Hey guys so I picked up a 99 EM1 last week, got it for $3600 with 197,000 km's on her. Doesn't have the original rims but came with HFP rims in decent shape, couple of them have minor curb rash but nothing too serious. It has stock shocks with aftermarket lowering springs (unknown brand), no name air intake, blox LCA's i think (red), stock exhaust with a no name fart can muffler, s2000 side marker lights that didn't even wiring to them or bulbs, reverse switch wiring was chewed by the rad fan, brake lights dont work, license plate was mounted in the lower grill, head lights were foggy, doesn't have original trunk or the spoiler. So thats all the stuff thats wrong with it, I have been tinkering with it since it got it slowly fixing the little things. Anyways here are some pics cause I know that what everyone wants.

So I did some work on the Honda the last couple days and fixed the following

1.All brake lights now work
2.Side markers now have bulbs and are wired correctly
3. Rims are polished and looking way better
4.License plate is now relocated to where its supposed to be
5.Refinished my headlights and they looks brand spanking new now

WRECKERS PARTS TODAY TO BE INSTALLED
6.Reverse switch isn't wired up but went to the wreckers today and got the connector for it and lots of others to have on hand
7.Picked up a fuse box cover cause mine was broken
8.Picked up lots of clips for trunk liner
9.Grabbed a plug for the rear speaker deck (someone had a baby seat in it at one time)
10. Got a main relay cause its nice to have an extra
11.Got two sets of rear mud flaps for 99-00 sedan/coupe and 1 passenger side mud flap to mate with my drivers side
12.Looking for this honda cd player. Does anyone run this still? Does it provide good quality sound? I have very expensive boston acoustics in the door and rear, and soon to have tweeters.

NOW PICS!
License plate relocated
[IMG][/IMG]
After I refinished the headlights, wish I had a before for you guys
[IMG][/IMG]
Rims polished
[IMG][/IMG]
Trunk liner missing every clip haha
[IMG][/IMG]
Mud flaps haven't cleaned them up yet, will post after... got a good idea on how to make them look brand new, will let you know how I make out
[IMG][/IMG]
Reverse switch female connector is in there somewhere plus a bunch of extra's
[IMG][/IMG]
This is the cd player im talking about, anyone have some input about it? Decent quality?

Nice man, sometimes it the little things that no one else will ever see/notice that make you car that much more enjoyable to ride in. Looks like a nice little car man, good pickup.

How does it run?

Not bad deal and love those HFP rims.

You should photoshop your license plates.

Hey thanks, I agree... the little things make the big picture look so much better and cleaner in the end. She runs good, doesn't burn oil .. im the third owner and the first owner who had it till 2009 had a pile of receipts that total over 14 grand he was OCD about it, the second owner is the one who let it slide and almost f'd it up. So im its saviour haha

When i saw it online for sale I was disappointed it didn't come with the original wheels, but when I looked at it in person I was in love with the rims... and I haven't seen another em1 with them so thats a plus

How come? Can people look up my plate and find my address?

Thanks dude, it has some blemishes I plan on getting it painted sometime during the summer. The guy has a red and blue metallic black paint on it now, it looks pretty cool in the sun but I think back to stock black it is

Possibility...

A lot of scumbags in Ontario (Specifically GTA). Posting what you have gives thieves what they need to boost your car as well as gives haters something to hate about.

Yeah I love the wheels as well nice score on that. You got to fix that rust on the engine and get rid of the on name parts.

Yeah it has a mid level sony deck in it now, and I have a higher end pioneer deck as well and the speakers sound amazing with the perfect amount of bass. I just love the look of the OEM honda cd player, especially because it lights up amber to match the rest of the interior.

Thanks, yeah no name ebay sh*t is going to be replaced starting with suspension/exhaust and engine bay clean up is at the top of the list. Guy painted the valve cover red which I like but he didn't prep it properly and used the wrong kind of paint so shes peeling a bit, and he wrapped the spark plug cover in carbon fiber vinyl. I need better weather and more hours in the day haha and money

I ran that stereo in my Accord (which came with a crappy aftermarket one). It wasn't loud, but it was reliable and didn't skip. No MP3 CDs, though, and obviously no aux input, so be prepared to haul around a crapton of CDs.

Just make sure you write down the code and put it in the glove box. I kept having to pull the thing out to look at the code someone had written on the bottom.

Thanks I used to 3M headlight restore kit, it was on sale so cheaper than buying everything separately. I would recommend it to anyone for sure!

Thanks for the code tip, as for how loud it is was it loud enough? I dont have woofers and dont need every pedestrian knowing what song I have playing, as long as its decently loud?

thanks

Nice car. I personally would have driven that sucker to SoCal and sold it for $7000, then blown a few grand on hookers and blow, fly back, and you still could have made money.

Here are some night shots of the cluster and climate control. Also are the sunroof/power mirror buttons supposed to light up? I only have the cruise switch lighting up.

I didn't think so, thought id ask before I wasted time pulling it apart. I have a lot of other things that could use some attention. Love your em1 by the way, those rims look real nice. What size tire you run? I have 195 60's and want to go wide to a 205 and like a 50.

I'm running 205/40/16s

It's a pretty rough ride, and I'm constantly worried about bending my wheels. I would run 205/45s in a 16... not 100% on 15 inch sizing, but 205/50 sounds right.

Stock EM1 tire size is 195/55/15, you'd have to use a tire size calculator to figure out what width would go well without a huge difference in accuracy of your speedometer.

Great buy, glad you're taking the time to make this car your own. I have one myself and I can't stop adding things here and there.

Can't wait to see more stuff from you.
