1997 Accord Special edition keyless entry or not?
Bought a '97 Accord Special Edition a year ago. The seller said the 'keyfob' has been missing for a long time.
No big deal. Now I want to buy one for the keyless entry. Dealer puts the VIN in their computer and says it never came with keyless entry. My research online tells me that the Special edition was the only one that year with keyless entry.
I am confused.
What do I need to look for and where? ..in order to tell if it has keyless entry.
Thanks

You could just get an alarm that activates the locks? (Mine does it in my 96 EX)
I guess for specifics like this you would need the Vin and to look with the dealer or other reputable resources for the amount that was made with keyless entry. Make sure it's in your country. As there can be differences in the models from Canada/USA/ECT

The Special Edition was the only one that came with keyless entry of the 5th gen Accords. You can purchase a remote and try this: http://www.ehow.com/how_6313775_prog...ry-remote.html. It should work as were equipped with keyless entry. Look under your front passenger seat and there should be a module for the keyless entry.

Hi. Thanks for the response.
I looked under the passenger seat again now, because I had also already read online there should be something there, and theres nothing in view. Just flat carpet all underneath, same on drivers side. No sign of anything.
This is a Canada car. Built on 2/97. VIN is 1HGCD5608VA808184 if thats any use. Has the Special Edition stuff: sunroof, alloy wheels. Heather Mist Metallic paint. Of course the usual stuff: a/c, power windows and locks.
Only thing obviously different is no factory stereo and all that included. It had a Pioneer CD player put in before we got the car.
Does anyone know what model keyless remote it might have come with? We have a 2000 Acura EL (Civic) as well. The remotes like the one in the link. This is for '98 Accord though, they don't show '97s. http://www.carandtruckremotes.com/r1318.html Maybe we could use one of those?

Do you know where it was originally purchased from? Dealership that is. Sometimes it says it comes with the Special Edition, however, it still could be an option. There's only 2 ways I know and that is, call Honda North America or run a CarFax report. Not sure if CarFax is available in Canada. Also look on the windows for any stickers that indicates keyless entry. I know that some were labeled during that model run.

Hi, new to this forum. I am looking for a correct key fob as well. From my understanding the Special Edition was the only model to come with keyless entry. However that system as a whole was part of the security system also installed in this model. I would say if your car has the factory red security light located avove the top right hand side of the stereo opening, your car has keyless entry.
