wierd main bearing problem (h22a4)
im having trying figuring out what the hell is going on here and i cant.
i have a 1998 h22a4 shortblock here that i am going to sleeve, but i wanted to get the bearings clearanced first to make sure i wasnt sleeving a junk block.
ok so i did a vin check on the block and it IS A 1998.
i grabbed the 97-99 prelude service manual (i work at a honda dealer) and flipped to the main bearings page. its telling me that the crank will have numbers/letters on the crank next to each main. mine doesnt have any, or atleast none that i can see with a magnifying glass...BUT, it does have this on the web closest to the crank pulley-
" ->DCBD
->66533
"
It has those arrows and everything. im starting to think this is a h23 crank or f series crank? i have never looked into doing bearings before with the oem bearings...
im think i should just order 1 of each color and check them in each journal..
or should i just get the one size fits all acl's?

Re: wierd main bearing problem (h22a4)
the block says 44444
if i go by the "DCBD" I get:
1: D6 blue
2: C6 brown/black
3: B5 green/brown
4: D3 brown/black
5: D3 green/brown
if i go by the "44444" i get:
1: 4-6 blue
2: 4-6 black
3: 4-5 brown/black
4: 4-3 brown/black
5: 4-3 green/brown
either equation is damn close. im just goinf to order 4 brown pairs and 1 blue pair and plastigauge them... sound correct?

Re: wierd main bearing problem (h22a4)
well i mic'd them all out and ordered all pinks for the mains and all greens for the rods.
they will be on the loose side of the spec, some will be slightly out of spec.
all mains will be .0015-.0017" clearance and all the rods will be .0018"

Re: wierd main bearing problem (h22a4)
Double check the H22 main specs. They have a couple main bearing clearances that are different. I can't remember right off of the top of my head, but they are not the same 1-5 like some of the B series. That DCBD is your rod bearing journal size on the crank, and the 5 numbers is the main bearing journal size. Match that with the 5 numbers on the block to figure your main bearing sizes. Sorry, I did not post on this sooner, just ran across this now.

if i do it that way its:
1 blue
2 black
3 brown
4 brown
5 brown
i will be quite a bit looser than these with the pink bearings i ordered but all of them are are ballbark of the loose spec. and tighter than the rule of thumb .001 per 1inch of journal.
thanks though!
