Cel Code 4

Cel Code 4
I have done a few searches, and haven't found a problem quite like this. I recently purchased a 93 Del Sol SI with a D16z6. The Cel light is on all the time. If I reset it, it doesn't come on with the car idling, but will by the time I back out of the driveway. I'm getting a CEL code 4, but the car seems to run fine (other than the light), no rev limit, fair gas mileage. I have a spare distributor and ECU (from a previous smashed SOL) that I can use for test, but I'm curious if it could be something other than the CPK. ANy ideas?

Re: Cel Code 4
Still have to try the distributor swap. I tried putting the distributor from my 95 into the 93; everything went well until I tried to plug in the 7 pin plug.....they don't quite match! Rockauto lists the same part for both years, does anyone know why there would be a built-in difference?

That didn't work. Lets try again:[IMG][/IMG]
and....

The top picture is the plug that fits into the harness. The bottom one was from the 95 distributor. While the pin out is the same, the fatter plastic around the outside edge prevents the plug from engaging. The outer plug plastic is identical.

Re: Cel Code 4
One of them has an extra piece of plastic stuck in there from the mating plug, pull it out with a pair of needle nose pliers.
Also for future reference the macro setting on your camera (the flower) will take a much clearer closeup.

It probably would...but I took those pictures with my phone (in the snow) at lunch, so that was the best I could do. That was a great idea about the extra piece, but not the case...that extra plastic is molded right into the plug. I DID remove a rubber seal to photograph it. I'll get pictures of the mating pugs tomorrow...hopefully clearer.

Re: Cel Code 4
You do have an extra piece of plastic in there, the second piece has a rolled edge so it probably looks like one piece. I've seen this happen a lot. As recently as yesterday.

Re: Cel Code 4
You were right, it was an extra piece.....but in the wring harness, not the distributor. So I replaced the distributor, but in still didn't fix the CEL code. On to the ECU.........
