Default Please verify oil pump replacement steps

1993 honda mt f22

I bought the 90-93 factory manual off ebay. it does not have the oil pump replacement procedure.

Searched here for oil pump replacement and found nothing.

found these steps on ehow and want to verify. fine with everything else. Also the full motor gasket kit does not come with a gasket between the oil pump pickup and oil pump?
only rubber o-rings in gasket kit

Install your new oil pump to the engine block and torque the mounting bolts to 108 in-lb. Insert the oil screen and torque those mounting bolts and nuts to 108 in-lb.

2
Insert the oil pan and the balancer driven pulley to the front balancer belt. Use a suitable tool to hold the balancer shaft in place and torque the attaching bolt to 22 ft-lb. Put the balancer driven gear on your rear balancer shaft and torque that bolt to 18 ft-lb.

3
Line up the groove on the pulley edge to the pointer on the balancer gear case and install the balance or gear case to the engine with its mounting bolts and nut. Use a 6 x 100 mm bolt to hold the rear balancer shaft in place and then tighten the mounting bolts and the nut to 18 ft-lb.

4
Observe the alignment of the pointer on the balancer pulley, ensuring that it aligns with the pointer on the oil pump. Install or connect the pulley to the crankshaft and the CKP sensor, tightening the mounting bolts to 108 in-lb. Connect the timing belt tensioners, timing belt, balancer belt, crankshaft pulley and the lower timing belt cover.

you got a hard copy Helms FSM from ebay? was it a regular book, loose leaf or CD? should be like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/1990-Genuine...item337185393f

point is, the procedure should be included in the FSM.

i'll try to confirm the torque values for you, but overall that procedure sounds right. you are doing this out of the car right?

in car - really don't need to have engine out. its tight but doable

already have oil pump back on engine and left balencer lined up, bolt through rear balence hole with gear torqued on

bought this one - does not have engine disassembly procedures in it or their is a engine supplement

probably go buy a real one next

pics of motor and head all ready to go back together

Sorry to hear about your manual not containing this information, what a pita.
Here are the steps from my manual, these are for a 94-95 accord but these cars have similar engines and identical oil pumps.
At least you can confirm a few things to be assured the job was done correctly.

That sucks that you paid for an incomplete manual. Ebay can be such a rip off, specially when you can download a lot of these manuals from share sites.

my book ends in the 90-93 manual at 5-53 engine section . looks like their should be a next section on engine block dis assembly and the balance shafts that is missing

I think that the procedure is a little different for the 90-93 but not much. picture at 8-11 and 8-12 confirms what I was thinking it was

when I get home friday will work on it

In the middle of doing this now myself. It can be done with engine in car, just work in close quarters is all.

Oh yea, for those who may still be reading this. I fought for hours trying to get my balancer seal back in place. Then even went as far to take off oil pump and still couldn't get it it. Be sure that when you buy the parts to get the correct one. come to find out I was trying to put the camshaft seal on the balancer shaft. There is about an 1/8" difference in diameter in the two seals.

@shawn.m and @92 Akord.
I know it's been 4 years since you did this job, but if you're still around this site and if you remember, any of you have any problems reassembling the pump? I'm having a real pickle with the rear balancer shaft, after it's installed it won't spin. Did you go thru any issues during reassembly other than confusing the camshaft oil seal for the front balancer seal?
