Default Turn signals work, but blink really fast???

I checked all my fuses and relays and everything is working as it should. But when I turn on my turn signals they blink really fast, like how they would if a bulb was burnt out. But all my bulbs flash as they should.

When I turn on my hazards they blink at the proper speed. They also come on as they should when my parking lights are on.

Things I have done:

Tucked both headlight harnesses - This was done without cutting any wires or splicing.

Fixed the shotty wiring job done on the side markers ( previous owner stripped the wire and used electrical tape. I just soldered and heat shrinked )

Added city lights - wired so they come on with parking lights and off with headlight, not used for turn signals

I've checked all my connections for things I may have unplugged and everything is good. I swapped the turn signal relay with a known good one and same issue. All the fuses are good and hazard switch was swapped with another just for good measure.

Sounds like your turn signal wiring or switch is modified and causing the problem. The blinkers and hazards use the same relay.

My blinkers are fast because I'm using LED bulbs.

Can I assume that your hazard lights also blink fast?

No. They don't but TBH I haven't checked them in a while.

Both sides or just one? My left side would blink fast intermittently a while back, but worked fine when you used the hazard lights, ended up being a bad ground. To check connect a ground wire directly the negative battery terminal, or a clean unpainted part of the chassis and connect the other end to the metal part of the bulb socket.

bad ground or short in the wiring

Would you mind checking next time you drive your car?

Hmmm...That's odd. The grounds for the blinkers and hazards are identical.

Turn the bulb 180* and reinstall it. Its a longshot but i also had this problem in the past.

Absolutely. I would have but it's like 17 degrees outside and I wasn't going back out there.

I completely understand. Check when it's convenient for you. I'm just curious.

I know, and I still haven't totally figured it out yet. I just jammed a piece of copper wire between the side of the bulb and the socket, crimped a ring terminal on the other end and grounded to one of the bolts that holds the fender on. I'll fix it right this summer when it's warm and I actually have more than 5 minutes to look at it.

Wow thanks for the suggestions guys. I checked and re-checked my grounds and went straight to the battery with the same results.

grumblemarc

I do have led's as turn signals, only in the headlights. I did a bit more research into it and I may have to install resistors. I will update once I get more info.

If grumblemarc's lights blink fast when signalling and normal when using the hazards then it's resistor time.

I am going to dig up some normal 1156 bulbs and try it in the morning and see if using stock bulbs fixes the issue

I put my stock blubs back in and they blink normally. Did more research last night and basically it comes down to this:

LED blubs draw less current than incandesent blubs, even thou all your lights flash and work, the flasher relay does not see the draw it needs to operate correctly so it thinks a bulb is burnt out and flashes faster.

Adding resistors or a flasher that is designed to work with LED's will correct this and you will not have "hyperflashing" Apparently it is a ricer thing or a j-body specific mod where they want faster turn signals to make car look fast!.

I found this on Amazon and it is a relay designed to work with led's and slow down the rate of flash.

I also found a link for a led flasher that plugs right into the fuse panel but I don't think I saved it to my computer.

I knew about the resistors but actually prefer the fast flashing becuase people down here canot drive and I need every little trick I can get to make sure I am seen when making a turn,

You said you had LED front flashers? What kind to you have? I can't use wedge bulbs and cannot find anything slim enough to go into the headlight housings.

grumblemarc, have you checked out http://www.superbrightleds.com ? I've bought everything except turn signal bulbs from them, and everything has fit perfectly. They might be able to help you out.

They'll also sell resistors, hybridnorth, so you don't have to do too much digging, or try soldering anything.

Been there many times. Nothing there that I want to take a chance on buying that ends up not fitting.

Well hey, what year is your car? I'll order a set and let you know about the fitment.
