Default B20 bottom end + B16A2 head = ...?

Some of you will have noticed a hardened b20 bottom end for sale on the forums which has been slightly modified to allow it to connected directly to b16 head.

Question, is this a sensible modification i.e. reliable and powerful? I assume its both but don't really know wat to expect especially with a stock head. Would I be better getting a stage 2 head and then consider the b20 bottom end? Can the b20 take 8400 rev limit?

The reason I like the idea is the big torque improvement I'd see from this engine mod, however I doubt it'd produce a massive HP increase. Tell me otherwise of course.

Spec looking at is:

Blue printed B20B block
85mm high com pistons
H22A injectors
balanced and lighten crank etc.

best advice i have seen all day (sad thing is u wont see the sarcasm in that)

it takes u an equal amount of time to reply SEARCH as it would to answer some of these questions. i dont get it. some of this **** is getting out of hand

as to answer ur question

powerful: it can be, but dont expect the reliability unless u get a full build by someone who knows what they are doing

reliability: well ive heard very mixed reviews about the b20/vtec, once again that plays into depends on who builds it.

b20 with a 8400 rpm, i wouldnt but hey u can try.

its really hit or miss on a b20vtec unless you have it done right. Mine never gave me a single problem and all I did was beat the living **** out of it. I took mine to 9k with a couple 10.5 pulls. Handled it like a champ.

I beat the **** out of mine....and took it to 9.5 on occasion....and I had no issues....that is until a lady in a Trailblazer slammed into me at 40mph and destroyed my motor.....if I were to do it again I would LS/vtec it and build it over for what I am using it for...so it stays within its limits

I still have my motor, thinking of dropping it in another civic to enjoy chirping 5th again. Only time will tell.

in 2001 i did a b20b block with a 90 sir1 b16 head and i reved it to 8500 everyday for 2 years. never had a problem except my piston rings got fried but since then i had ls vtec and a b16 while building my b20vtec. now i have the same motor just built with b20z internals and it still runs great after almost 3 years and i perfer it over the ls vtec and b16 anyday just my opinion hope it helps.. (ls vtec still is a good setup i just like the torque from the b20 a lil better)

correct me if i am mistaken, but the b20b (not b20b4) was the same as a b20z and b20z2. it didnt have the 8.8:1 compression it had the 9.2:1 (or whatever it is). im pretty sure i read that somewhere but maybe it was flase.

My B20 is going on 2 years with no problems. I take it to 8500-9000rpm constantly. I say go with it.

ok so you say that you have not had problems with your b20 setup but that you would build the ls/vtec if you had it to do over.... was that a money driven decision or just a personal choice?

Don't need to bore that much from the original 84mm. don't thin out the wall and keep it 84mm to 84.5mm maximum.

H22A injectors are only 290cc . Won't help much.

Here's EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW..
