What valve spring removing tool do you guys recommend for removing valve springs when the head is still bolted to the block

yea i have the bluepoint version...for u to use it with the head still on the block ur gonna need a leakdown tester..and crank up the air pressure to like 150psi so the valves dont drop..

Or you can put some soft nylon rope down the spark plug hole and rotate the piston up to TDC.
The nylon rope will keep the valves closed if you don't want to buy a leakdown tester just for this one job.

no to all of those above. I used the first one for a long time. Pita. Use compressed air as you would with the above tools, to anybody that hasnt used the tool I'm linking, You're gonna save waaaaay more time using the one in this link. Usually takesabout 5 min. per cylinder once cams and stuff is outta way. 20 mins for all four cylinders. Oh ok. I have Euro Export valve spring compressor tool that makes life's 10x easier. Thats the tool I used to do my sk2 pro valvetrain.

Shinanigans! I've been trying to use the lisle version of this tool which is basically the same thing... I'm not a small guy and compresing the spring enough for the keepers to sit has been frikn impossible... I will now be looking for a different method unless you can teach me how to use it "properly".

I think you're supposed to hit it with a hammer. Are you doing that, or trying to press it with your body weight?

I use the one in the first link and I like it. Once you set it up you can take off each valve without taking the tool off for each cylinder.

It's my understanding you hit it with a hammer to remove the valvesprings, which I've done. i'm trying to reinstall now and using body weight which is frikn impossible... i don't want to buy another tool but i guess i may have to.

You just have to make sure it is squared up when you press down on it. Also push it down slowly, just till you hear the keepers "click" into place. If you push past that point, they won't set in. so just push firmly and slowly till they "click" then let up and should both be set. I would never use anything else. way too slow, attach tool, screw down, fiddle with keepers, lose mind, repeat. f that.

I have the one in the Ebay link and it worked great. Also, you don't have to put compressed air in the cylinders. With each cylinder at TDC the valves only drop about a 1/4". As long as you make sure each cylinder is at TDC for the given valve stems you're replacing you'll be fine (this is the way I did it and I had no issues).

Bought the tool listed, both infact. I use them on the cars i work on.. Both ways work.
