ls vs ls/vtec
first off ive got a b18a1 that i want to start working on, my goal for right now is only about 200whp and was wondering if it would be more cost efficiant to just build the stock head or pick up a b16 head and go vtec and build from there
sorry if there is another thread like this i searched and couldnt find anything

Re: ls vs ls/vtec (Black_LS_Integra)
See I was in the same situation as you and reading/searching helps a lot.
I'll break it down and if anybody cares to correct me, be my guest.
To get a b18a/b into the 200whp range you generally would need:
**You can get the JDM B20 head if you can find it, it flows very similarly to the b16 head
-port n polish head
-over bore done on 81mm, or get the block sleeved to 2.0L
-aggressive cams
-valve spring/retainers
-high CR 11.5:1 +
-I/H/E
-Larger diameter Throttle body + aftermarket intake manifold
-hondata or crome.
Now for a LS/Vtec, the vtec heads are much better flowing right off the bat compared to a b18a/b head.
-then you'll need the usual, higher CR, valve spring/retainers, cams, tuner, etc... but you don't even need to do head work to hit 200 with a LS/Vtec
Personally, it's up to your preference. I am building my b18b NA allmotor because of the dyno charts and the good power it makes and makes more with the JDM b20 head + sleeving to larger bore.
the LS/Vtec when done right can also yield very good results, so just depends what 'floats your boat'

Re: ls vs ls/vtec
Throwing a gsr head with a golden eagle conversion kit would probably be the most cost effective route to go with as oppose to the ITR to start off. You can always upgrade your camshafts later on down the road.

Re: ls vs ls/vtec
If your going ls vtec so it can be reliable
Arp rod bolts
gsr head studs or Arp
And for better oil flow gsr oil and water pump same with the timing belt
B16 head/gsr cam stock ls pistons pr4 ...
I just drop a b16 head on the b18a1 block hook it up with oil line and a chip p28 and beat the **** off it
It last me 6 month spun a barring but it was too see if I like it..I built it again with the right stuff and I do laps on gsr and ls
So ls vtec stock it depends but you bee on the 180hp that's what I got my first time...plus vtec kicks in hard...
