2001 CRV problem filling up with gas, pump keeps stopping
I bought a 2001 CRV a month ago, 163k, Colorado driven with zero rust.
Every time I fill up with gas the pump keeps stopping. I have to hold the nozzle barely in the filler hole and fill it slowly to get any gas in it. Putting the nozzle in all the way and putting the pump handle on the highest flow like you normally would just stops almost instantly. Seems like a strange problem, and I searched and couldn't fine anything relevant. I've never had this issue with my 5 other Hondas.
Could the fuel filler neck be damaged somehow? Any other ideas?
thanks

The filler neck vent is clogged, plugged, etc...
The way the pump knows to shut off is when the fuel covers the neck vent, and air can no longer flow through it.

there should be a tube running from near the top of the fuel filler, near where the gas goes in, down to the tank I think, it's part of the fuel filler neck, I would bet mud dauber nest in there, they love to crawl around fuel filler doors and into those

it should look a lot like this, it could be a clog in the metal line or the short rubber hose at the end could be collapsed, if the metal tube is clogged, get a new tank gasket from Honda, pull the filler neck and run something through it, or compressed air etc, if it's the short rubber tube, get some fuel line, make sure it IS fuel line not heater hose, will be marked as such, and replace it

By any chance is your check engine light on with an EVAP emissions code? i have seen bad canister vent shut valves cause this exact problem

there is also a Onboard Refueling Vapor Recovery valve (ORVR Valve for short) that captures fuel vapors during refueling. your problem may also be here

I would also check the tube itself.
I have seen the ball inside tube to cause no fuel to be able to pass by into the tank.
Its like a check valve or anti-siphon.
