Default OEM vs aftermarket window visors.

Ok, so i am planning on buying some window visors. The thing is i can either buy some OEM window visors and spend my whole paycheck, or buy some for $30 and have a lot more money to spend on something else. What are the major differences besides who made it? what are the best aftermarket window visors? I had the same question on rear lips for a 1996-98 civic coup. would people be able to tell if it's OEM or not? thanks.

OEM visors all the way! I have them, and like them.

OEM has brackets that go under the window seals, and then clip onto the visors. A total bitch to install, but they will not be going any where.

Aftermarket just have sticky tape, which sucks. I have seen them come in high winds, and car washes. They both do the same thing, however Honda is MUCH better.

For the lip, YES. Aftermarket lips tend to fit like total crap, and you have to drill holes to mount them. OEM does not, they have clips, and bolts under the car.

3M tape windows visors scream CHEAP! You make the call. You sound like you're trying to pass fake crap off as real to save a buck. If you can't go all 100% then don't do it. Save up and do it right. Same with lips/lip kits.

LOL 98civdx my boy. yeah i guess i'll stick to OEM stuff. thanks for the explanation on how they mount. I'm just afraid about some scumbag just ripping off that plastic visor. then it would be like $200 down the drain. lol

If I were you, I would go to your local junkyards and see if they have any that are in good condition. You could probably get a set that looks decent for under $20. Then you would have the OEM fitment and operation, and still have money for your exterior modifications.

Go OEM. I found someone selling a set for $85 with all hardware. Installation was extremely easy and only took me 45 minutes in the dark.

Had mine ripped off in my apartment complex. They left 4 of the brackets on the ground. Darnd them thieves.
If you have a garage or live in a nice neighborhood, oem. If not, visorless.

WeatherTech is North American distributor of the OEM provider of Honda window visors in Europe (known as ClimAir there - a German-based company). So, YES - OEM EDM visors are different than JDM. They also don't use clips (weak) or tape (cheap) - they slide into the window channel. Also less prone to theft, probably.

EDIT: This info is accurate for 5th Gen Civics, however it is also likely accurate for 6th Gen also.

And only $60. A nice alternative. I was not looking forward to those clips.

I have both. The car came with the Honda Access visors, which I didn't like too much, so I bought some Weathertechs instead. The Access visors look good, but I didn't like the way it was bolted on through the outside; just kept thinking that people were gonna yank it off, break it, etc.

I have Weathertechs on all my cars, and I like them more because they seal with the window up. It's hard to break, and I think that it would help deter thieves if they were trying to pry the window open.

so about the Weathertechs.. they would be difficult/impossible to steal without being able to roll the window down? i was planning on buying the OEM ones. but $180 is quite a bit. i just don't want mine to get stolen or get broken by someone stealing them. $60 sounds better to me than $180. and i know the OEM ones are a pain to install.
