2000 Accord Idle Problem
So my 2000 Accord is having an idle issue after removing the IACV ( idle air control valve ) and the EGR valve for cleaning. For the past 6 months my car has had issues idling. It started to happen mostly when it rained or the road was damp. It started to happen more and more frequently, me pulling up to stop signs or stop lights and my rpms dropping, stalling the car out. It would always start back up just fine and then wouldn't happen again for weeks/months. Just recently it happened and lasted all day instead of going away like it usually did. I thought that right off it may be my distributor since it was raining that day. I checked it and everything seemed fine. No moisture and all the leads looked to be in good shape as did the rotor. So the next day I took it over to advance auto and had them run a scan on it. It threw up 4 codes. EGR valve, O2 sensor, Cooling System Malfunction, and a valve timing code. That day I took off and cleaned the EGR valve and the IACV. I also replaced the plugs and wires. Im thinking that my cooling system malfunction may be air in the coolant so I plan on bleeding the system tomorrow. I haven't checked into an O2 sensor yet so that may still be the problem. Anyway after putting the clean EGR and IACV back on I ran into another problem. I started the car up and the rpms started jumping from 1000 - 2000. Not only was the needle bouncing up and down but the engine was reving also. Im thinking I just didn't let the IACV dry all the way before putting it back on. Whatever it is has me stumped. Im thinking the EGR or IACV needs to be replaced and the cleaning just wasn't good enough. The valve on the bottom of my EGR valve pushes in and out with my finger, I don't know if thats a good thing or a bad thing. My IACV has a slight opening in it and doesn't seem to close all the way. I sprayed both with TB cleaner hoping that'd do the trick but Im not 100% sure if that helped any. If anyone has had this problem then please share your storys, Im trying to gain as much information as possible for troubleshooting this, Thanks.

Possibly the IACV is sticking open...If you had a scanner you would be able to tell if the IACV is the problem by monitoring the IAC count. Usually if the IACV is stuck open the pcm will try to close it resulting in the IAC count being low. Bring it to a Honda Dealer or a skilled mechanic

^ that was regarding the idle fluctuating issue...Seems like you have several problems as well that you may need to repair.

Thanks for the feedback SiR831. Today I plan on bleeding the coolant and refilling it. I may also take the IACV back off and try cleaning it once more. I was thinking that it should be closed all the way but it has an opening in it about the width of a toothpick. Don't know if thats normal for it to be open like that or if it should completely close. Also the valve on the bottom of my EGR valve was stuck when I took it off. I sprayed TB cleaner in it and it loosened up allowing me to push the valve in and out freely with my finger. Like I said though, I don't know if thats a good thing or a bad thing. Im sure the problem lies within either the EGR valve or the IACV just because after they were reinstalled the car did something completely different ( got fluctuating rpms instead of losing rpms and car stalling ) Today is my last day trying to solve the problem myself. If I don't get anything accomplished today Im taking it to a Honda dealer next week and letting them rape my wallet. Hopefully I can find something out today, I will keep you all posted.
