I have a 1996 civic coupe that is my winter beater that I would like to lift about 1-2"

Have been thinking about maybe a set of prelude springs or CRV struts and springs.


Has anyone ever done this before?

Oh and I have already made an aluminum frame to hold 2 Hella lights on the front Just gotta wire them up when my other parts come in

It should be possible, just need to figure out which shocks and springs will be compat with the current configuration. As in what will bolt up to the stock lower control arms etc.

Before Honda came out with their truck, I was having a chat with one of my friends about building a offroad civic for the Baja 500. Would have been the first honda ever competing.

I seen someone around here that lifted an EF hatch essentially until it looked like a truck. They were rolling around on Mickey Thompson's with some sort of modified 4 wheel drive train. I remember thinking how fun it would be to have in an Indiana winter. Is it possible? Yes. Do I know how they did it? No, but it looked sicccckkkk.

I need to get some of those put on my civic. Those ebay projectors are bout as bright as a bic lighter on the vegas strip.

i wouldn't use coil overs, then you will not get that suspension travel you want.

I've often wondered this my self why no one has built a lifted civic.

If I had the TTM's (Time,Tools and Money) I've always wanted to buy a 96-98 CRV and 92-98 civic and swap the suspensions.

Then I would have a slammed CRV and a jacked up civic.

also this should give you an idea what it would take to make it AWD. I think i would use the rear setup out of a 88-91 wagon and use the wagon trailing arms as they should be the same size at the EK's. The reason i'm thinking this is the intergra / rear disc conversion. You could use a DA integra disc setup on a 88 and up civic with no issues, so this tells me the Wagon's should be the same length. Also the 88-91 sedans came 4wd overseas.

oh even better.... i just remembered that overseas they made a AWD intergra. So if you were to snag a deal on the rear setup that would be more ideal as the chassis is pretty much the same....

Yes sir it is... OEM.... The integra's also came with sohc zc engines with carbs.... No kidding...

Civic would be easy to lift if you could get coil spacers for them. If you know someone that works at a machine shop you might be able to get a set made up.

I was thinking about this again this morning. ^^^ This would probably be your best bet with out alot of work or screwing up your steering geometry (Think bump steer)

I think the front suspension from the CRV should bolt up. Again you may have to do something with the steering like spacers from the tie rods to the knuckles to keep the steering geometry inline. But the rear subframe on the civic and the CRV will have to have the spot welds cut out of the sub frame and swaped over.

Idea is the same weather or not you are lifting or lowering the steering knuckles, if you have the tierod ends at an angle the toe will change when you move the tire and rim up and down causing bump steer.

Also, you could probably use CR-V suspension with ITR LCAs in the rear.

If you have a parts CRV, what about measuring and seeing if the Civic body may fit on the CRV chassis?

Someone did this with a Subaru and it turned out pretty cool. I just think that since the CRV was meant to be AWD, maybe it would be stiffer and it would eliminate some of the more crucial alignment and fabrication problems that would arise and get some people in over their head.
