01 SH ignition timing not adjustable?
whats up guys thought this was a little weird but the timing marks lined up anyway...
so my dad has a 01 prelude sh. has a Cylinder 1 position code...went through the trouble code diagnostic chart and everything tests good... so any way it has an intermittent problem. It usually takes about 10 drive cycles to set the code.
We decided to just swap out the distributor and see what happens considering the dizzy is cheaper than the ECU. and its more than likely the dizzy or ECU....
Got a used part in good condition put it on...as i was installing it i noticed that it would not allow for advancing or retarding the timing like my b series... the bottom bolt hole on the dizzy is not slotted like B series or F series. I checked the old dizzy, same part numbers, and it has a regular hole just like the "new" one. Any way I followed the procedure to set ignition timing and checked it.... the mark is exactly where it needs to be.... Is the SH timing not adjustable?

Pretty sure all OBD2 H series are like that, the ignition timing is controlled by the ECU.

Right on...I just thought it was weird....I didn't use a honda service manual....I have ALLDATA, and I know sometimes its wrong... I looked up the procedure and it seemed the same as all other models, f series, b series etc. I was nt to concerned when the mark was were it was sopossed to be.

During tuning they adjust ignition advance/retard via the computer, not manually. In fact, unless you have some serious need for your base ignition timing to be changed, like a milled head or something, I think its best for your distributor timing to be dead on in spec. That way as your tuner changes your timing they know they are changing based on a known standard.

Like you said, someone had messed with your car previously. Clearly at some point they swapped on an OBD1 distributor if you can adjust the base timing. I would check your ECU as well; my bet is someone did an OBD1 swap.

Re: 01 SH ignition timing not adjustable?
It is 100% not adjustable on a USDM OBD2 H22 . All the crank sensors are on the oil pump. Unless you convert all the crank sensor back into the distrubutor like the OBD1 distrubutor.
