intake manifold
i am looking to get a new intake mani and throttle body for my b16 thats turbod. i was thinking either edelbrock or skunk2 andone know which one is better or if it is just preference??

how much power are you making now? how much power are you shooting for? keep in mind that the skunk2 and stock b16 manifold are very similar in design. with the edelbrock you will lose power below 7k rpm. so unless you're building a drag car that will be revving to 10k, i'd stick with your stock manifold.

im looking to make 500+ but im not really looking for just a drag car i would like to drive it on the street also ya know? and if im going to spend the money on an intake manifold i would rather buy one that will be better for higher hp that way if i wanna take it to the track i can just get another tune and have one for drag and one more streetable

I just swapped out from a AEBS to a victor X and there is a noticeable difference below 6k. It is still nice to drive and depending on the turbo you choose could do well with the victor X. If you street the car more than track it I would get the skunk2. Either way you need to get a properly sized turbo and don't go with a 600-700hp turbo if you don't need it. I am sure the shodan will chime in with some great advice and experience that will help you choose.

i mean im just thinking of going with the victor x that way i have the power there when i want it cause it either im just gonna be cruising around babying it or racing so why not just go with the victor x that way i can get the power when i want ya know?? but i mean skunk 2 would be nice but its basically like a factory intake right? but im willing to lose some low end to get more power with the victor x and wont ever have to upgrade it if i decide to make more power....but i am CURRENTLY using a precision 3431E turbo 57 but i will probably upgrade that eventually once the money is there...

If you are just going to baby it and drive like that or race it then yes go ahead and get the victor X. I cannot really tell a difference just driving around. Plus it doesn't help having a t67 either if I want to feel the turbo just driving. Also if you are wanting more power later and don't feel like buying two intakes then get the victor.

from the victor x to the skunk 2 is there really that much of power loss under 6k and how much more noticible power gains do you get at higher rpms with the victor x compareed to the skunk2?

It feels significantly more powerful above 6k. As far as below that there is a drop in hp. I need to re tune so I haven't driven it hard but once just to see and the afr's were leaner than before so I will have more to report after the re tune. I can only go by my butt dyno so far.

could split the difference and run a mildly ported p73, it's pretty similar to the skunk just costs $100 used vs twice that for the skunk. if i remember right they have more plenum volume than the oem b16 manifold.

I would have preferred a sheet metal intake because of the longer runners but I got a smoking deal on the victor X. And really anything bigger than a 65mm will do just fine. Just make sure that when you get a TB to port match it to the intake manifold if necessary.

like i mentioned earlier im either gonna just be cruising around or driving it to the track or im gonna be on it. and i would like to get the right size throttle body to where i can get the best power i am not too worried about drivability...but i was thinking if i get the 74mm skunk2 tb wouldnt i lose low end power? but im not really worried if it will help me out when i get on it and at higher rpms...but idk if 74mm will be too big?

Intake manifolds are a matter of utilizing a combination as to what you plan to use the car for, and personal preference and fitment. For many street fighters, even a stock one will do more than the job up to about 400-450whp. After that, obviously you're using the car for a different purpose.
AFI - Victor X - Custom Plenums --->
typically used for cars with larger turbochargers (larger than about 58lbs/min) for those that are looking for much more top end power above 6K rpms , and aggressive cam, and using the car more for drag racing. Street Fighters use it too with larger turbochargers, but typically those that just want super highway runs or those thinking they're on Bonneville Speedway.
Skunk 2 - Ported ITR - AEBS--->
Are for those that even if they plan to use the car as a Street Fighter, but allows for better midrange torque below 6K rpms. Top end power is still maintained, but not to the same extent as the much larger plenums.
Many Circuit racers use this version over the others because power is not the biggest concern for that genre.
So, pick your poison. There is no one better than the other, really. Its about the timeframe you have, setup, and use of the car..... just like with anything else.

thanks shodan. i am using skunk2 pro 1 cams...and i guess i am looking to get more top end and for racing purposes for the most part so im gonna go with the victor
