Would buying a one owner, all stock 2000 Honda Prelude with 110,000 miles be a bad move. It's a five speed and has been taken care of. I can get it for $5000.

Do it. If the timing belt hasn't been done, do that too

I own a 2000 Honda Prelude with a factory 5-speed and about 110,000 miles on it. It was a single owner car with about 40,000 miles on it when I found it. Here's what I've had to do to my car since buying it 5 years ago.

Minor/Preventative maintenance:
Brakes
Timing/Drive belts
Oil changes
Tires
Coolant flush
Valve lash adjustment

Major:
Transmission @ 88,000 miles (5th gear & reverse locked out)
Clutch & cylinders (only because I had the tranny out already)
Limited Slip Differential (only because I had the tranny out already)
One rear bearing/hub
Two upper control arms/ball joints

Needs:
Suspension (starting to feel loose)
Some minor rust spots on the hood from rock chips & such

Overall it's been a good reliable car in the time I've owned it and I try to keep up on the maintenance. A car taken better, or worse, care of may differ dramatically.

I bought a 1997 Prelude with 255,000 for 3Gs....(I needed a car bad, my Avalanche is killing me on gas and my 95 accord is sick....)

So far, besides burning a lil oil, the car runs great. The previous owner took excellent care of it, had all repair records and had it painted in the last few years. Even if the engine goes, I love the car and plan on modifying it any way.

Two years ago I bought a 1998 Prelude Type SH with 154,000 miles. 1 previous owner from North Carolina. I found it listed online for $6000 and took it for $5000. Now it has 176,000 miles its my daily drive and I run it hard! I havent had any major problems. Only major thing was that the crank shaft pulley broke and had to replace it. So i decided to add performance clutch and flywheel. Runs great! Im thinking about doing a rebuild though just because I want the fullest power from the engine, later going on boost!

They run great if you treat them well. Oil changes and check your timing belt time to time!

I know it's not a Prelude, but never the less... a lady brought her old civic into the shop the other day with 330,000 miles on it. One owner all miles on same motor. Said she had it serviced regularly and it still ran strong and didn't burn much oil at all.
All depends on how the owner drove the car and cared for it.

I've never seen any ride with over 300k...that's so much. Highest I've seen is ~280k or so on early 90's work trucks.

I bought a 90 Prelude Si with 2 previous owners and 116,000 miles on it 7 years ago for $600. Aside from maintenance and a new exhaust the thing runs great. Leaks a little oil from a bad cam seal but it does not burn any. As everyone is saying, if a car is cared for, it can last for a very long time.

I've now seen two.. one was a Toyota truck, mid 80's. And the other was this Civic. I honestly didn't believe the lady until I looked myself.

I owned 5 hondas and one was a 83 civic with 220,000 miles on it when I sold it. I also owned a 88 prelude with 277,000 miles on it when I bought it and the speedometer and miles didn't work so it probably had over 300,000 miles on it. Now I own a 01 prelude that has a 110,000 miles and it run strong still and I beat it like a ex wife. I will never buy any other type of car hondas our very relaible and they don't lose value.

Mine's a 92 on motor 3, swapped SOHC F22A out for JDM H22, the F22 was still running strong when I pulled it.

Something weird happened when I tried to start the H22 over the winter in -30 degree weather and it's never run right since, so I'm building a turbo H22 now. I wouldn't consider this a failure of the motor, I would consider it a failure of the owner.

The actual chassis has 127K on it. My experience with Prelude and Honda reliability in general is that if you fix the problems it has when you get it and maintain it properly, you'll almost never have a real problem. And don't do stupid things to it like start it in -30 weather.

I've also had:
90 Civic Ex 4 door - traded in on 04 Civic Si 220K
91 CRX Si D15, then B18A swapped - 188K
93 Civic Ex D16 - hit by an SUV while parked - 183K - sold and still driving around town
95 Civic Ex D16 - went with the ex gf - over 200K when it finally died, due to neglegence
04 Civic Si K20 - traded in on 07 Si - 36K
07 Civic Si K20 - Current DD - 45K

I just tore down a motor from a 92 Prelude we bought. 267k+ the last owner was obviously a total tard. The car is beat, the motor got hot and snapped the cam. Crank looks new, you can still see most of the honning and the bearings have plenty of life left.

If this car was somewhat taken care of I think this motor could have seen 300+ with ease.
