Default 1980 Honda CB650 Bobber

I picked this bike up last summer for $200. It was running but not well. After some major carb cleaning abd making baffles for the air filters, I got it running pretty good. I decided to go with a rat rod theme by using things I had lying around to fix up the bike.

The original owner had moved the coils out onto the front downtubes because he couldn't make them fit under the harley tank.

I gotan extra set of wheels with it so those had to change and a new Harley rear tire.

I removed the passenger seat mount and lowered the pan area a little to allow for some springs under the seat.

The other owner had started to make forward controls but they were very sloppy, so I made new ones out of old sockets, extensions, and chain. Then I used another drive chain to make a "chain" guard.

I swapped the handle bars and got some smoked turn signals

I made a keychain out of a live .308 round I had from an old rifle. The primer is still live. lol

A cellphone shot that I really like

Unpainted booger- welded sockets and chain don't go with the relatively clean rest of the bike. Redo the chain guard with the welds on the underside, otherwise a cool idea; never seen that before. Not something I'd ride, but I respect the time, thought and skill that goes into building stuff like this. More pics, please.

I should take more pics now because I took a wire wheel to the chains and chaid guard to polish them up and then cleared them. You don't notice the welds on the guard now that it is cleaned up. I shot a fresh coat of black on the frame too. Remember, this whole bike cost $200. I personally love the welded sockets because they go with the rat rod feel I was going for. Rat rods originate from using anything you had laying around the farm to get your truck running again. I never thought I would ride a cruiser after my Ninja 1100 but you can't find a good looking crotch rocket for 200 bucks. I get tons of compliments on this bike from people of all ages. It's just something to ride to save on gas.

Usually I am sad to see vintage bikes turned into choppers/bobbers/cafe racers. But I asssume the bike was in pretty poor shape since you got it for only $200.

That it was. REALLY rough shape. It barely ran on 3 cylinders and every part of the bike was in need of TLC. I actually traded a 1980 Yamaha xs400 forit plus $200. I had bought the xs for 400 so only had 200 in this bike. The xs was CLEAN but underpowered and uncomfortable.

Thanks. The seat, the tank, and the rear tire are all from a Harley.

Probably to late but I have been looking for longer cables and handle bars like the ones that came with the bike. Do you still have them?

nice build, did you convert it to a rigid tail. I can't wait for my triumph build when I get back to the states.

Makes me want to talk my dads friend into letting me have his old CB that's been sitting in his garage with a seized motor for the last 15+ years.

Liked it before minus the seat. But it's definitely original.

Sweet bike bro! If you still have the spoked wheels I'd love to score a set!
