Default my 97' accord wont shift into any gear?? HELP!!

hi all, hope someone can help me here before I go and get a used tranny (97' accord, ex, auto). So I was at the red light one day and light turns green and car wont move? Wont shift into any gear after that, from one moment to another. Honda dealer says get new tran. someone told me that's odd and never heard of a Honda do that he told me to check the shift cable and everything seems to be fine. Someone said shift solenoid but then someone else said that if it were the solenoid it will still shift into 1st at least or reverse something like that. I took good care of the car and it only has 100 thou. on it and it turns on like normal everything fine except it wont even hiccup when i move the shifter absolutely nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rich.

Are you CERTAIN the shift cable is connected and turning the manual valve? I suspect an electrical problem. Check for DTC's then proceed with other troubleshooting.

The vehicle is OBD 2 ( On Board Diagnostics generation 2 ). This means the computer monitors a TON of data and can identify when many different problems exist. If there is an electrical problem or various mechanical problems the vehicle will set a DTC ( Diagnostic Trouble Code ). Before spending too much time I would check for a DTC in the system as it may help direct your efforts if one existed.

Have you check if the auto tran's low on fluid? My dad's '94 Accord EX pressure ATF line has hole in the line for some reason and all the fluid came out while he's at the red light waiting. So then he tries to go but it wouldn't even move. The car would start and rev but no movement of the car. Then as I did a inspection, I found that there's a cut in the pressure ATF line. So yeah, thought I wanted to share.

i had an axle "pop out" of the trans in my old integra. it would just rev regardless of gear until eventually it would not shift into gear. check your cv joints. also check trans fluid and pressure lines
