Default Upper radiator hose hot lower cold. Stuck thermostat?

I have a 2000 civic ex with a stock d16y8. The upper radiator hose is hot and the lower is cold. The temp gage stays about half when the car is warmed up and the heat blows hot. Does it sound like i have a thermostat that is stuck closed?
Thanks

its sounds like you have a perfectly working civic

a thermostat stuck closed will cause your engine to overheat, your gauge to reach H

and a wild guess but both your radiator hoses would be cold(er) than the rest of the cooling system

But the upper hose is hot like it should be and the lower is ice cold. No heat coming from it at all.

sounds ok to me . if the motor never warmed up then it could be one of those fail save thermos that stay stuck open. but it seems to be working correctly

Because the radiator is working, quite well actually.

My car is the same way in the winter. It's so cold out that the coolant doesn't stay hot in the radiator for long, and the t-stat opens only partially.

If the car were overheating that would mean that the waterpump wasn't circulating. If the car is not overheating everything is normal.

when your car is cold, after a new morning, check to make sure the antifreeze isnt frozen or something

just to make whoopy, make sure there isnt too much water in the cooling system

Frozen anti-freeze? Isn't that an oxymoron? It would have to be -45 degrees.

in a normal 50/50 mix of antifreeze/water, then yeah, but when too much water is inside the system and less antifreeze, the water could freeze and make a slushy antifreeze mix

Thanks for the replys. The coolant is new and i haved tested it so i know it is good and there isnt to much water in it. It just seemed weired to me last night when i got off work at 2am. It is cold here in Indiana right now and alot of snow in the last couple days has come down. So maybe that is the only reason for the lower hose not to be hot.
Thanks again.

I will try the bleeder valve because I just finished my head gasket and put new coolant in it and I'm having the same issue as well with a Honda thermostat, but coolant came out of the Overflow Reservoir cap in the bottom hose is still cold oh yeah and I have a new stock radiator cap and hoses to and radiator on my 03 Civic EX

Park car facing uphill.
Start engine
Crack bleeder valve
When bubbles stop coming out and a full thick stream of coolant runs out of the bleeder close the bleeder off.

Top off radiator before shutting the engine off, done.

I know this thread is old but im having similar problems. Heater blows hot, upper hose is hot, lower hose is cold, tested my brand new thermostat by boiling it and it works. I have a brand new radiator aswell and am using the OEM blue honda coolant in my 1997 civic cx hatchback that i swapped a jdm sohc zc motor into. My radiator fan isnt turning on which makes me belive i have a problem as well as the lower hose being cold but i suppose that could just be from good circulation from the new radiator. My new swap has 45k on it and i doubt the water pump is bad. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Is your car overheating? If it's not, I wouldn't worry about it.

The fan on my car will only turn on if the hood is closed. Heat escapes when it is open.
