Driver side axle clicking

Driver side axle clicking
Alright so I need some help....
The other day I was on my way to work. 7 am, like 25 degrees out...I turned on my car, let it warm up and after about a 10 minute wait I put it in reverse n take off...
So I'm driving down the street n everythings ok, I stop @ a red light and when it turns green I take off, I start hearing a loud knocking noise from like under the motor..now I'm no mechanic or anything but I assumed it was a rod knocking...
So here's the deal: when I'm pressing on the gas or the break I get no noise, the car drives straight.....soon as I let off the gas, like to cruise on the highway or in the city, I get this loud *** clicking noise coming from what I'm pretty sure is my axle...
I've done a little bit of research and am thinking its gonna be a bad cv joint but I'm not really sure....
Any advice, or tips on how to go about fixing this?
Thanks in advance
O yea btw its a 94 coupe w/ a d15b7 if that matters....thanks

Re: Driver side axle clicking
cv joints typically will make noise when turning a sharp left or right... Try that if not... Jack car up and check for cracked or split cv boots.. which will need to be replaced anyway so you may as well do the shaft for the price...And hopefully that fixes problem...
I have had one cv make noise while straight, but usually corners..
If all boots are good and no noise in corners....Not sure what to recommend as the diagnosis procedure..

Replace the axle. If you are going to do it yourself Autozone has the axle nut socket you are going to need on rent a tool. Give them $10 go use it, go back to the store and get your $10 back. Good luck.

Re: Driver side axle clicking
definitely look underneath first. It doesn't sound like a CV joint going out. When mine were going out, it drove just fine going straight. They only made noise when turning.
Also, bad CV joint should get louder if you turn and accelerate at the same time.

If it is your axle, it can be easy to replace, but it can also be a bitch if you can't get the axle nut off. If the is your first time, be ready for a headache. I can change mine in less than an hour, but it may take weeks if you don't have the tools/knowledge.
