Icon6 How do you replace an oil pan gasket on a 2000 civic?

I have a 2000 Civic LX Sedan w/ Automatic transmission.
I was just wondering what all has to be removed in order to
replace the oil pan gasket.
Also what tools will be required?

Socket, scrapper.

Remove oil, remove oil pan, scrap gasket off, place gasket on pan, re - bolt pan.

Don't you have to remove the exhaust manifold?

Remove exhaust pipe A, the engine stiffener, and the flywheel cover.

You may need a large rubber mallet to knock the oil pan loose from the block.

Use an OEM gasket. Put some silicone sealant at the sharp corners of the pan and gasket on either end. Torque the nuts and bolts to spec in several passes in the order specified in the service manual.

Nooooooooo don't pay someone! Those parts are pretty easy to remove. Just spray PB Blaster on the exhaust bolts and let them soak for an 30 min before you wrench them.

Think everything could be removed and replaced in 1 hour?

maybe an hour and a half. It depends on how hard the bolts are to get off. But you can buy liquid wrench, and spray EVERYTHING with it and then tap everything with a wrench or extension a few times, and let it sit for about 5-15 mins and it all should come off pretty easily. Are you sure your oil pan gasket is leaking?

I'm 95% sure its the oil pan gasket. Oil is everywhere on the oil pan. It seems to be coming from the seal. Also its a pretty bad leak.

did mine tonight, wasn't too fun. Now that I've done (and loosened all of the bolts/nuts) I could do it again a lot quicker, but I'd much rather not. FYI, if you plan on replacing the oil pan, go stock, as well as for the gasket. Bought an oil pan from RockAuto and it didn't have the holes for the stiffener brackets or a groove for the gasket. Gasket from Pep Boys wasn't too impressive either, as if it wasn't enough of a pain in the *** already.. No immediate leaks, we'll see how she looks in the morning.

Anyone have photos and procedure for replacing oil pan gasket on 2002 Honda Civic LX
D17A1 SOHC? Also, torque specs.? (Honda dealership asking $400 to replace gasket...service manager doesn't talk with me after I made comment on price.)

It would be just about the same as on any d16. Remove exhaust manifold, etc. The d17 is structurally pretty similar to the d16 from all I've heard.

Not sure about the torque specs because I don't have a later service manual, but I know on the pre-2001 cars, it really isn't much. We're talking like 15 ft/lbs. Much more than that breaks them.

Thanks. This Civic has taught me to think about many things before I buy another car,
one being to get one that I can under to work on; this thing is so low it scrapes chewing gum off the street. I lifted it up with a couple of hydraulic floor jacks and took a look-see. A person with limited use of one arm probably shouldn't attempt this job. I'd better get some help or take the car to one of our local one star shops, which will charge $200. Anyway, the leak is only a teaspoonfull a day right now, that's manageable for a few weeks.
