Are you building it yourself or having a shop do it? D15s are cool, and rarely built, but everyone is going to say just go with the D16 and be done with it. If your friend's motor is already built I would convince him to sell it to you on the cheap. You're going to make a lot more safe power with the eagle rods and the D16.

Re: Sleeper D15b7 Turbo Build!
He ended up selling it. I do have a friend who runs a machine shop so any work that is needed i know i can have done on the cheap. What do you guys think of the d15 setup? People keep telling me the d15b crank won't work for what I'm trying to accomplish. I really need some help on this guys!

Re: Sleeper D15b7 Turbo Build!
two way to go about it
1) jdm d15b crank w/ either d16 rods(stick out of the hole or better yet fj distributors custom jdm d15b i beams
2) check out turbod16.com and search for d15b8 rods, there is some guy in hungrey makeing them for $300ish i think like 350-380 shipped , i have been waiting to see a transaction go down to see how good the quality is and make sure he isnt a scamer, however his shop seems to have an extremely good reputation in europe.
thethings to consider are:
the d15b7/8/2 crank is not as beefy as the d16/ d15b cranks. it is said to keep it around 300 with the factory d15b7 crank maybe 350 on a really good tune, it also is only partially ballanced. whereas the jdm d15b crank is just as strong as the d16 crank which has seen 700+ whp as well as being fully forged and balanced from factory.
but then again the d16 crank was thought to fail at 300whp as well as the factory sleeves but we see how far we have come since then as tuneing softwear gets better and better and more percise the limits are being pushed farther than ever.
good luck

Re: Sleeper D15b7 Turbo Build!
i'm planning to do a similar build, jdm d15b with ls rods + vitaras, and z6 head
ls rods should be ok for 250-300hp.
if you plan on using a b7 head, the CR will be very low.
the only place i know to find a jdm d15b crank is in a jdm d15b block.

Re: Sleeper D15b7 Turbo Build!
Actually. Just had another idea to still utilize the b7 head...LS rods are 137mm while b16 rods are 134mm. this should solve the Compression issue as well as piston height.

Re: Sleeper D15b7 Turbo Build!
sounds fun, my roomate had a boosted ef D15 with a big 16g (or something along those lines) with DSM injectors and an ebay 2.5inch.
Never dynoed it or anything, he was using an ECU from xenocron.
Car was fun as hell to pick on people with, no one expected it lol, I think he even beat an SRT-4 on the hwy. lol
have fun
