0 lbs of freon.

it does however use tetrafluoroethane aka r134a

iir the system should take about 1.4lbs (22oz.) of refrigerant.

make sure you pull a vacuum on the system first before trying to fill it. i can't tell you how much easier this process is with one of these buggers lol

bump for this one. i have to recharge my A/C, too. Is it absolutely necessary to pull a vacuum test prior to adding the refrigerant?

http://www.youfixcars.com/car-ac.html

"it is highly recommended to remove any air and moisture from the system before you add a Freon charge.

Pulling a vacuum on the system does this. If you decide to skip this step, your air conditioning may work after recharging, but the question is for how long.

Air in the system restricts the refrigerants ability to change its state from a gas to liquid and can cause pressure problems and lower the cooling efficiency of the car ac.

Moisture on the other hand can cause freeze ups, and also restrict the refrigerant flow. Moisture can also form an acid when mixed with refrigerant.

This will cause corrosion inside the system. An a/c vacuum pump connected to a manifold ac gauge set will remove all of this air and moisture from an empty system. You must recover the remaining Freon from the car air conditioning system before you pull a vacuum."

I have a '94 Accord and, I just replaced my high pressure receiver pipe due to a hole and tried recharging through the low pressure port. However, I have put in 42 oz. of r-134a and nothing has changed. Hot air is still blowing from the vents and gauge reads 10-15 ps,i and the needle continues to drop every time I check it. There is no leak, so I don't know why several cans of r-134a seems to have no effect. Should I continue to add more refrigerant? I"m afraid to over charge it.

Your system requires less than half this amount of refrigerant.

You overcharghed your system bro. By a lot! This is why it's blowing hot probably.

I'd feel bad for the person who actually would try to put freon in their civic. 1. Where the hell will you find the damn freon? 2. It's highly poisonous. If they could find a better alternative to antifreeze, that would be illegal to sell like freon in a snap.

1. ebay ? It's all over. Just because it can't be manufactured doesn't mean it's illegal to sell :/

So does anyone have some actual manifold gauge target pressures I should be hitting? I recently did an engine swap and I need to get this thing cool again. I did drain all the oil out of the compressor. I'm pulling a vacuum on the system right now. However there are no stickers telling me how much should go in.

It's a 92 civic 1.5

If you have a stock system, it takes 21-23 oz of R12. When the system is empty, just add that weight of refrigerant. You should then be good to go.

Does that include or exclude oil? eg, 22oz of r134a + 4oz of oil?

It's actually been retrofitted to r134a last year, so with the smaller older compressor, it will never cool as well as it should with r12. Are those numbers still correct or should i go with the 85% rule?

The Civic stock R134a system takes about 22 oz of refrigerant not including oil.
