Icon2 rear disc brake conversion on civic coupe help

hi i have a 95 civic coupe with stock rear drum brakes that i want to convert to discs. i was wondering what all i would need to do this like proportioning valve, master cylinder, booster ect. also i dont have ABS which means i would have to use non ABS rear discs right? and also how hard is it to do this swap from 1-10 and about how long should it take.

scale of 1-10 a 3. i have a 96 hatch and just did the swap about two weeks ago. dont know why i didnt do it earlier. i used the trailing arm assembly from a 97 integra WITH abs and just removed the abs system. super easy its just a magnectic pick up and some mi-nute wiring. For the proportion valve I'm not sure about your vehicle. If you check with Honda dealership compare the part numbers with your model civic and the si one. For the 96-2000 civ they are the same. If you send me a pic of what kind you have on your civic, I can tell plus I have one as well, bought it from someone off Honda-Tech and it wasnt for the 96-2000. Its an older one. The only hiccup you might run into is the E-Brake cables. They might be shorter than your current ones. You could A) go and buy new Si ones from a Honda dealership for about $70 or B) use the ones from the swap and not bolt all three brackets. Thats what I did and nothing rubs. Works fine. Just remember to bleed the system afterwards. ALL 4 OF THEM! let me know if you got more ?

thanks man that info really helps a lot. how much do you think the brake set-up is worth because i got an offer to trade my ls long block for it but im not sure if it would be worth it or not.

not worth it at all. I bought the 97 integra trailing arms with the rotors calipers and e brake cables pretty much brand new for $125. they were pulled off a junkyard car and were never used. Search craigslist or a junkyard. the most i would pay is 175 average is $150. what does your proportion valve look like?

You can use a prop valve off a DA integra if I remember correctly. Its easy as hell to do the brake swap

if you look close enough on the valve it will either say 4040 or 4060. you need the 4040. if not it will wear out your rear pads faster. the valve will put more pressure on your rear discs.

that might actually work. but i think you want the 4040 for heavier pressure. if you cant find one at a junkyard. ill sell you mine i havent used it since i bought it. I have a 96 so it doesnt work

This is a few weeks old, but when you did your conversion on you 96 hb, you said you re used the ebrake cables. Was your conversion from an integra? I have read that you need to replace the cables with 99-00 Si cables, but i have herd of a few people using the integra cables. Im doing mine this next week from a 99 integra. Not sure if i need to pickup some Si cables, any thoughts?

From what I understand. You have to cut part of a rubber gromet that goes to inside of the car for the integra lines to work. It can be done but will cause wind noise from what I have read. Better of with the SI lines, IMO.

I couldn't tell you what thread on HT that info came but it is on here.
I have been reading for the past week on a rear disc conversion and also the poor mans 5 lug conversion. I just bought my rear disc setup off of a 97 teg ls. I sure hope it works and I hope this helps some

So fer everything is good, currently in the process of takin off the tailing arms, takin a while cuz im doin it in my spar time. I spoke with someone and they said that the reason u cant use the Teg ebrake cables is their 1.5 inches too short. but if u leave off the first mount you make that distance up and it fits perfect. Will let you know when I string mine up wither it worked on my coupe or not.

Only question I need answered is to what torque setting do I torque all the bolts to?

Sounds like you've already started but the easiest in my opinion is to get the whole rear disc set up off a del sol

And yes trick311 you are right, 99-00 SI ebrake cables will be what you'll need, I used the rear disc off a del sol and the SI cables worked perfect on my 97 coupe

Did the swap last weekend, was easy, only problem I ran into was I had to re tap one of my threaded holes on the uca. That and one of the brake line in the 4040 prop valve I cant get to completely seal, it seeps out very slightly. anyone know if u can use the pvs trhead sealer?

Otherwise its easy and well worth it. I think total for mine was $300, about $175 for rear assembly from 99 teg, $40 for prop valve, $80 for new pads all the way around, $20 for re machining of discs, and was good to go. I re used the teg ebrake lines just leave off one of the mounts and the slack is made up.
