Check your tires on the side that it sounds like it's coming from. inspect them for separated tread, thrown weights, and bulges in the sidewalls or tread area.

Usually if there is thumping and vibration the cause can be.

* Tires out of balance (Thrown weight, etc.)
* Tires are unevenly wore (Not rotated regularly.)
* Out of alignment

I've just recently acquired a '99 Civic and I'm going through it getting things in order. Mine sounds like I'm rollin' on Buckshot Mudders. From the wear on my tires, I believe it is improper inflation and rotation and my tires are roaring.

You'll get a humming sound. Jack up the car and if you can wiggle your tire, your bearings are bad.

It's often described as a groaning or growling sound that gets louder with higher speed.

They are pretty common to go. I could tell mine were because the front wheel(s) would shake at highway speeds.... badly lol.

also, when the car is jacked up, you can turn the tire and if the bearing is fairly bad, you will hear it making a grinding sound...
