08 civic stuck in 5th gear
car: 08 civic 5 speed manual
miles:20xxx
Car was stuck in 5th gear, i disconnected the shift linkage at the trans and manually shifted the gear selectors no problem, i hooked the linkage back up and it was free (shifting perfectly). I drove it in the city for 5 min without a problem, then i got on the highway and drove 2 miles and it was stuck in 5th again.
brought it back home and ordered new shift cables (linkage cables) i replaced them took it back down the highway and wouldnt you know it its stuck in 5th again fml.
when it does stick in gear it doesnt matter how i rev/depress the clutch it does not want to come out, if its internal and i crack the case open will it be noticeable?
got any suggestions?

If you can shift it out of 5th by hand once shift linkage is disconnected it would indicate it is not internal, although still possible.
Questions...
Have you checked the tranny fluid/oil level?
When it is working is the shifter loose/sloppy?
If so, replace bushings at both the tranny and shifter end of linkage.94

Re: 08 civic stuck in 5th gear
I drained the fluid into a funnel filter and it was clean( no metal debris)
and refilled it with honda mtf..... no the shifter isnt sloppy at all.

Re: 08 civic stuck in 5th gear
I don't know what to tell you, because you can shift it out of gear by hand when linkage is disconnected would indicate it is not an internal problem and must be in the shifter, linkage or connections.
You said you replaced the linkage and the shifter is not lose or sloppy, that would indicate it can't be a linkage problem, so back to an internal problem.
Questions...
Has the car been in an accident, [possibly a bent chassis]?
When you shift it out of gear by hand, [once linkage is disconnected] is the engine running.
If not, do you still have to depress the clutch to get it out of 5th?
You said when driving it will not come out of gear no matter what, does that mean either when accelerating or when decelerating and at any speeds? 94
