86 Honda Accord
I have an 86 Honda Accord (Carburated-Automatic). I start the car by hitting the gas once and then start. It goes to 2200 RPM's and then after a moment or two I kick it down to 1500 where I put it into Drive and go. Is there an adjustment I can make that will adjust both above RPM's down as I am afraid
I am going to hurt the trans by putting it into gear at 1500.
Thank you very much for your help!

Your car is running how it should. It is supposed to run about 1500RPM until the engine warms up a bit. It won't hurt it to kick it into drive like that. It does eventually settle down to ~750RPM or so, doesn't it after it warms up?

Thank you for the response.
Yes it does settle down after driving for a few minutes to a lower very smooth RPM around 750. So it doesnt hurt the trans to place in gear at the high RPM?.
This is a very nice shape 86 Honda we just bought for my daughter and it runs and looks great. It looks as though it has a pretty new trans.

Nope, sounds like it's running great. Just as it should! No worries about putting it in gear at high idle. It was designed to do it.

Yes, I believe on the 3rd gen it's on the intake manifold. If I remember right (been a while since I worked on a 3rd gen) it's in between runners 2 and 3.

It might help out if you let it run for about 5 minutes before you go. I always let my car run for a small amount of time before I go when it is cold, but it will not hurt it to just start it and go.
