Default popping 100 amp fuses like popcorn

Im trying to help out a friend, he has a 98 GSR with standard bolt ons. The car has been sitting for a year now. But last time he drove it, a corner light fell out on the freeway and ripped all the wiring up. He parked it and that was that. Fast forward a year and he finds out he blew the 100 amp fuze on the fuze box located under the hood. He gets a new one. Un hooks the battery, puts the fuze in and as soon has he hooks up the battery, it pops the fuze. I have had a long day and my brain is fried so im looking for helpful suggestions from my fellow honda-tech members on what they think the cause of this could be? I appreciate any help, thanks in advance.

Start from the damaged wiring and trace it back. You're just going to have to inspect the wiring till you find the fault.

this is what i would do honestly coming from an electronics background

clip off all the damaged wiring for starters (i dont think that this could cause a 100 amp fuse to pop but you never know)

get yourself a multi-meter put it on the continuity check setting for now and do this:

because something has been shorted to ground you're going to leave the black lead on somewhere on the chassis and check against it. nothing that i'm goign to tell you to check should test positive for continuity with ground. except for the base line test

baseline test (to ensure you have a good common ground)
find your spot and test it against the negative battery lead.

now work your way from the battery to whatever if you get a beep continue down that line. best place to start is your positive battery lead.

then both sides of the fuse you're blowing. one of these will come back positive, if its the one that +voltage comes from the battery should be easy.

follow wires until you find where there is damaged/frayed/ unshielded wiring.

good luck and make sure you DO NOT do this with the battery plugged in.

well good luck. just remember while you're doing this as soon as you stop hearing a beep there is no longer a problem. because its a 100amp fuse that is popping, it must be a huge short because 100amps is a ton of current for a 12v battery.

some high current wires to check would be a starter cable and the alternator cable. not sure how they're fused together or whatever but that would be the first place i would start because it would be easy to tell if there is something wrong. pm me if you need more help and i'll give you my email address.

update, so i had the car towed to my house to find out the reason he was popping fuzes is cause he had the terminals on backwards. {Ive seen it done before, but i didnt think he would have done that} So he blew the flasher relay, so a 11.00 part at pep boys fixed it right up. A waste of a tow, but glad i could help out a friend.
