Default 2001 acura 3.2 cl Transmission problems!!!!!!!

i just recently brought this acura 3.2 cl type S, and it has started to give me serious shifting problems. what happens when its driven for more than 2 hours, the 3 to 4th gear is completed with a long delay i.e. RPM goes HIGHER and there is a delay in the shifting from 3 to 4th.

This afternoon i was driving and all of a sudden, the CHECK ENGINE, VSA, D5 lights started blinking (i was like WTF) and the car wouldnt accelerate and it would take a lot of acceleration to get the car speed up a little. And then when i turned the car off and turned it back on everything seemed normal except the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT was still on.

I talked to my friends about it and we think it could probably be one of the sensors that control the transmission, fluid level or torque converter or if its really bad it could be the TRANNY.

Please suggest guys!!! i just need some help big time, please suggest

How many miles are on the car? If its under 109k then your under the extendded transmission warranty if not get ready to shell out another 3 grand.

It is your transmission, if you do a search you will find tons of threads about the same symptoms.

i got it scanned and the code showed up as P1750 and it says that its a mechanical fault in the hydraulic system of the car.

How many miles do you have because I know the 99-03 TL's are covered until 108k.

Hi guys. I'm having severe problems with my 2000 TL 3.2's transmission. It just started about a couple of weeks ago. The first sign was a hard shift into second. It had never happened before, and I was like, "uh oh, this may be what the mechanic had warned me about." A local Honda/Acura mechanic told me that my particular year/series of Acura *always* has tranny problems over 100,000. From what I've gathered, I see it's true. Well, anyway, the hard shift wasn't constant. I noticed it once and then, a few days later, again. I don't drive very often, as I just stay home, taking care of my daughter. Well, the hard shift started happened a little more frequently, and then, today, while driving to my parent's house on the freeway, the car just jerked down into second gear. I pulled off the freeway and drove the rest of the way on the side streets, and stayed in second gear the whole time. The D5 light on the instrument panel was flashing faintly and the check engine light came on, also. So, when it came time to leave, we just decided to drive it back via side streets, the whole 30 miles. At first, on the way back, it sounded like it was ok, but then after a few blocks, it did that jerking shift, so I just stuck it in second gear and drove home like that. I kept it below 40 and it never went over 4000 RPMs (most of the time it was around 3500). It actually drove smoothly and there was no hard shifts from first to second or anything. Well, when I got home, pulling into the carport, I had to reverse it to get aligned with the space and guess what? There's no reverse, at all! I wonder, maybe that sudden hard jerk on the freeway, and then later on the way home was actually the transmission shifting into reverse? Is that even possible? (it shouldn't be, if it is!)

Ok, so, here's my big question... I already know that my car is part of the warranty extension. What I don't know is what the limits are. I literally have like 108,xxx miles on my car. I'm seeing on this website people are saying the limit is 109,000, which would just put me under. I've also heard, though, that the warranty was extended to 7 years or 109,000. Is that a whichever comes first type of thing, because, obviously, my car is over 7 years old, but it is *just* below 109,000 miles. The other thing I'm unclear about is the 109,000 miles. For some reason, I thought the warranty was extended to only 100,000. If it is 109,000, though, I may be in luck, but I'm not sure if it's 109,000 OR 7 years (whichever comes first.)

Other than that, if it is still covered, what do I tell the Acura dealer?

Hopping to get some good input! Thanks, in advance!

warranty was for 109K or 7 years 9 months. due to a lawsuit in CA. If you add in another 5% for milage due to another lawsuit you get 114K. your car is at least 9 years old and Acura will most likely not goodwill it 100%, you might get a partial cover. if no assistance you can expect to pay about $4-5K for a new trans and PCM (powertrain control module)

the jerk/drop into 2nd is the fail safe on the trans when there is a hydaulic seal failure inside the transmission.

I have a 2002 CLS that will need a THIRD transmission and the car has less than 90K on it.

So how do I make the claim? If I ask the dealership about it, are they going to be forthcoming with the real information? Somehow, I expect they might be like, "oh, no, you're car is too old," or, "oh, it was only up to 100,000 miles."

do you get your car regularly serviced by them? It usually helps to be on good terms with your dealer.

It used to be regularly serviced by them, like for the first 70,000 miles, but then I started taking it somewhere else (less expensive.)

Any idea where I can find specific info about the California lawsuit? I live in California. On another website, I saw that the warranty was only extended 100,000 miles, and I think I remember my mechanic telling me something similar. If it were actually 109,000 miles, though, that might work for me.

It turns out that the warranty was extended to 109,000 miles or 7 years--whichever comes first. No luck, for me. I took it to AAMCO and will find out what the damage will be, tomorrow. I called my Honda/Acura guy and he told me if he did it, the trany would be like $3400 and $500 for labor, so he recommended that I take it to a transmission rebuilder, because they would do it for a lot less. Hopefully, it will be a lot less. The AAMCO guy told me that's it's rare for there to be major damage to the transmissions in these cars (not according to the internet, though...) and it's most likely a problem that doesn't require a full rebuild. We'll see.

Well, it's fixed, but it ended up costing $2700 cash. I got a $140 discount for paying cash. It now drives perfectly. Hopefully, this one will last another 100,000!

From what I have read about Honda automatic transmissions the first thing to do is add an additional transcooler in series with the stock cooler and change to Redline ATF. Change every 30k.

i bought a 2002 acura tl-s 15 months ago. After one week of driving what i thought was a great car, the D5 light began flashing, as well as the check engine light illuminating. The code was a p1750, and i had to have my transmission rebuilt. I spent about $2700 cash to have the job done, which came with a one year/12,000mi warranty. Exactly one year and 3 days later, my transmission died again. I just do not understand how these transmissions are so un-reliable. I drive my car fairly easy, and being that it is a decently fast car, i dont have to push much gas. After spending 2700 i was very cautious when it came to driving the car. Basically, i

Its cause people dont change there trans fluid enough. Ive done tons of work on these and also there is a part that corrects a problem/flaw with these transmissions. When at a light the valve allowing fluid to flow thru the TC and the trans is closed so the TC heats up the fluid to a stupid temp and when you take off this fluid thats heated up and breaking down and goes back into the tranny.

People change your trans fluid frig every single slipping tranny ive seen was due to lack of care.

Check your solenoids and screen , usually a d5 blinking light means either a sensor, pressure switch ,linnear solenoid is out , on the bottom of the trans there are 2 pressure switch for 1/2 gear and for3/4 also

Like i said a blinking light means u are lucky and one of your sensor is out

There was a recall on the 2001 CL Transmission. The Acura dealer sent a letter to owners, stating there was a design flaw with the transmission, which required a "BOOT" be installed. I called the dealer to set up an appointment but my transmission went out before I could get it to the dealer. (at @ 90K miles). Acura towed my car in, replaced the transmission and installed the boot with no charge and even gave me a free rental to drive, while they installed the boot. I purchased the car new and have put almost 200K miles on it, with no further problems. I would guess the original owners either didn't get the letter or chose to ignore it. Acura honored the transmission boot issue well beyond the warranty period, but can only honor the letter, if people didn't ignore it. Recommend taking CL's to a dealer upon purchase and make sure that boot is installed. Always research recall's on any used car you purchase.

The Acura transmissions were recalled in @2003. They discovered they have to have a special boot installed. You may have jeopardized the recall, but it might be worth taking it to a dealer and asking them about the "special boot" they put on transmissions due to the "recall" and make sure your car has it.

so i had jerking problems on my 2003 acura tl type s and this is what i did in order to fix it:

1) change transmission fluid with honda engineered specific transmission fluid.
that helped out for a while but it came back, but not as bad.
2) changed IAC

that solved all my problems that included:
-engine light on
- not accelerating and jerking sometimes
-car would feel like its choking or powering down when lightly tapping on gas or on idle

i love the 2nd gen cl's. i always thought about buying one but after hearing about the tranny problems... it kinda scared me off. these days, most cl's that are for sale have 130k + on the clock. i sure hope they owners had the tranny serviced prior to selling.

im still looking into a cl. lol i just dont know why but i like the way it looks.
