Hard brake pedal, no stopping power.
lets start by saying that my car is an 06 ex 4dr with the auto trans.
For the past month now I have been having no brakes and a very hard brake pedal in the morning right as I pull out of my garage. The issue only happens for the first brake pedal application, then it brakes fine. There is no leaks at the master cylinder and the booster holds vacuum.
Any help would be great. I don't want to go to the dealer the one around me is a rip off.
Thank you all in advance.

Re: Hard brake pedal, no stopping power.
It's always funny to me why paying top dollar for professionally trained technicians and a thorough job is percieved as being a "rip off". See if your cheap mechanic greases the slider pins and bleeds the brakes after installing pads, I doubt it. Maybe that's why there is a difference in price. So if you think that's ripping you off then I dunno.
You want a good deal? Then go down the street to Joe's garage and pay your dad's buddy Ralph half the price, but don't complain when you need brakes in 6 months because he used the cheapest parts from advance auto.
Usually there is a reason you pay what you pay at the dealer.....Not hatin, just sayin.
But back to your problem......I dunno. If your rotors were wet that might make the initial stop take longer until the water dries. But I've never noticed it to be that bad.

^ Way to not answer his question at all and make yourself look like an idiot in the process. "If your rotors were wet"? Having trouble reading? He said he keeps his car in a garage, lol...
I'd take it to a shop just to get an estimate

Re: Hard brake pedal, no stopping power.
lets first start by saying to this ajpturbo crap guy, I worked at the honda dealer here for three years and yes they are rip offs. I do the brakes and guides do get lubed and I use honda pads, brake fluid is good. As far as wet rotors you need to get some reading lessons, mabe start at the pre-schol level.
Now I have to say thanks to everyone else but the booster is holding vacuum and the hose is clear. somebody told me that there might be a bulletin from honda about it but my honda dealer won't give me info.
Does anybody have access to honda bulletins that can help?
thankyou

Listen Brohan, let me start off first by saying you are not hurting my feelings at all, in fact I already told you degenerates that everytime you get your panties all in a bunch and I get you to the point of being defensive and displaying your anger it just makes me chuckle and want to do it again and again.
Guiness, if you work there and you think they are a rip off as well then I feel sorry for you. You must not get any gratification out of life other than your special time at home to youself, cause you sure don't get gratification from the work you do at your profession.
Sorry I missed the part about him being in a garage. However, concrete is porous, like a sponge in a sense and will soak up water. My garage floor will look damp when it rains for a while so maybe you could have condensation on your rotors after they are a couple hundred degrees and you pull into your cool garage and park it.

Re: Hard brake pedal, no stopping power.
ajpturbo, I said I worked there for three years now I work for the power company hense the reason why i left was that they are rip offs and they get away with shady stuff. As far as the concrete I haven't seen rain in my area for about 3 months, so you see why that can't be. Now and that it only happens once in the morning after about 12hrs of down time. So if you have any other info please add but keep it to tech info and we can see an outcome that will help people instead of all this highschool bickering.

Re: Hard brake pedal, no stopping power.
the only thing i can really think of is that brakes need to warm up before they actually perform to its best, but you said only the first application is weak, so im not sure. Perhaps the brake fluid needs to be changed? brake fluid does absorb water over time, your car is an 06, so the fluid should be changed already if not should be done soon. Brake fluid is overlooked all the time, it should be done every 3 years if you drive your car normally.

Re: Hard brake pedal, no stopping power.
If there was water in the brake fluid or air in the brake system, the pedal would feel spongy/soft or fail when braking. It sounds to me like your booster or vacuum pump is acting up somehow.
ajp...please quit talking!

I will check the booster again this morning and see if it still has neg pressure in it. The brake fluid has been changed twice every 25k.

Re: Hard brake pedal, no stopping power.
Careful what you say now....I'm not well liked around these parts...You might make them not like you just by thinking I'm funny! haha
Seriously though, Guiness I'd like to know what causes your problem. I don't get what could cause a stiff pedal and not produce braking. Usually it's soft pedal=no brakes. So you got me stumped.

i think the booster went out, or is going bad.
just like coasting the car with the accessories on and you use the brakes,
after a while it gets hard and u cant stop.
^that didnt sound right hahhaa

Re: Hard brake pedal, no stopping power.
Since it is mostly, if not entirely related to start up, it sounds like your booster is loosing vacuum over time. This could be the result of a bad check valve. After you start your car and give it a minute to build vacuum then all is well correct?

Re: Hard brake pedal, no stopping power.
yes the car will work fine after a short warm up. The other morning it had vacuum in the booster, so this happens during colder nights it seems. just thinking of doing a longer warm up in the mornings then I should be good. I will call and see if the dealer will use my extended warranty for it but who knows.
