OBX header sucks ass.

OBX header sucks ***.
The factory cast manifold on my sister's corolla broke for the second time so I decided to replace it with headers. OBX was the only company I could find that made headers for such a crappy car, so I bought some for $187 shipped off of ebay.
Anyway, it was the worst purchase of my life. The header wouldn't fit over the exhaust studs so I had to spend an hour dremeling the holes until the header slid on.
But then I realized that the head flange is warped to hell. Most of the warp torqued out, but I still have to go to a machine shop to have the flange milled.
Also, the factory down pipe has nuts welded on, but the OBX unit doesn't. So that was a nice little trip to True Value to buy the necessary hardware to bolt-up the down pipe.
To continue, the horribly crimped down pipe doesn't fit inside the factory cat opening which equates to a half-hour of fun with the belt sander and hack saw.
Lastly, the two-bolt flange that connects to the cat isn't even close to fitting. The pre-drilled bolt holes are a solid 1/2" too close to each other which means I have to re-drill both holes.
Everyone says that the "new" OBX stuff is good, but it still sucks. The pipes are thicker and the welds look really nice, but everthing else sucks. NOT A SINGLE ASPECT OF THIS HEADER FIT WITHOUT MODIFICATION. It took me all day and night to make the piece of **** work. **** OBX.

Yeah, you might have also read my last thread entitled "obx fuel rails suck ***." I'm done with OBX for good.
BTW, I finished the header install this morning - it took me about 12 hours and there are two exhaust leaks.

The funny thing is, I always preach about avoiding the "big three" - SSAC, OBX, and APC. But I didn't really have an option this time because there aren't many companies that make headers for '97 corollas.

Yeah, I've heard you have to re-drill the holes in the OBX oil pan. That company has serious issues when it comes to fitment.
Although to be fair, you aren't supposed to use the stock pick-up with an obx pan. Same with Moroso.

**UPDATE**
So I had the head flange milled to get rid of the warpage. That fixed the first exhaust leak at the expense of a $25 machine shop charge.
Then I realized that an even worse leak was at the union from the header to downpipe. So I took the header back and had that part milled too. The shop charged me $45. The machinist said he'd never seen such a warped flange before .
So now, I've spent $180+$25+$45+$6(copper spray) and the ******* thing still has the most horrendous exhaust leak ever. The downpipe flange that meets up with the header is still warped.
I SPENT $256 ON THIS PIECE OF ****! IT STILL LEAKS! ALL THREE FLANGES WERE WARPED TO HELL! I refuse to pay for the last flange to be milled. Hell, I shouldn't have paid for the other two to be milled in the first place.
ALSO - THERE ARE FUMES LEAKING THROUGH THE FLEXPIPE! THE DAMN FLEXPIPE HAS A HOLE IN IT!
I contacted OBX to try and get another downpipe as part of their "lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects" but I doubt if they'll come through. Someone should file a class action lawsuit against those a-holes for having a false warranty.

Re: OBX header sucks ***. (S2k Tamer)
I bought an obx header, downpipe, and "high flow" cat for my lude. The reason i bought it was because the flex pipe had a huge hole in it. I guess the irony settled in after i got it all installed and still heard an exhaust leak.
Ya pay cheap prices you get cheap crap. So, my prelude still sounds like crap.
On top of that there were dent holes in the center muffler by the bolts on the side that attaches to the cat and after i recieved it I find that the rear flange is welded on wrong.
That's what i get for trying not to spend a lot.

what i want is to put a header on my 88 prelude 2.0si 4ws..
i hear nothing but bad things about the obx...
the pacesetter is i guess the only other option???
i dont know thats why i am asking, who makes the best header for the 88 prelude 2.0

Re: OBX header sucks ***.
first off i registered for this site just to tell u this... your really dumb man ever here of the KISS rule, "Keep it simple stupid" k first off never expect anything to fit perfect unless u manufactured it your self, second off, when u said your flanges didn't fit to the catalytic converter why wouldn't u of cut the old flange off from the old flex pipe cut the flange off from the new flex pipe and clamp the old flang back on duh.... or u take it and buy a flange that the holes line up dummy why re-drill when u really dont have to. hate when people try and do **** to there cars that clearly have no clue wtf there doing and put bad reps on company's that are actually decent, im glad it took you that long to put on tho headers, and had so much difficultly maybe u should stay away from car stuff if u struggled that much
and to add how stupid u are, i actually bought the same header for my 97 corolla and im no god but did exactly what i told u and they fit fine on my car fine.. plus no leaks...and i notice and increase in horsepower...say what u want i just proved u wrong on everything u said hows that make u feel haha
