To retrieve air bag codes, locate the OBD II connector and find the Brown wire in pin #9. Ground that wire and turn on the ignition, then the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) light will flash out codes.

To clear the SRS light, locate the Yellow 2-cavity connector in the drivers fuse box. The wire colors are Green with a Black stripe and Blue or Black. Jump the connector and turn on the ignition. When the SRS light goes out, remove the jumper wire within 4 seconds and when the light comes on, jump the connector within 4 seconds, and when the light goes out remove the jumper wire within 4 seconds and the SRS light should flash 2 times and reset. This procedure will need to be done after the SRS failure has been repaired or to see if the problem is intermittent.

i dont think heat did anything.

but a low charging altenator could very well set off the code.

The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) light will illuminate when driving the vehicle, as soon as you slow down the light will turn off. There are no stored codes when terminal #9 of the OBD-II connector is grounded.

Tests/Procedures:

1. Check the charging system, if the alternator is overcharging the SRS light will illuminate and not store a code. If the alternator is overcharging and the powers to the alternator are good replace the alternator.

2. If the charging system is operating correctly, then voltage drop the powers and the grounds at the SRS control unit before replacing any components.

i know this doenst follow your "exact" symptoms, but i think it is close enough
