Sine the stud has not actually broken, you are going to have to remove the entire knuckle. you can unbolt the caliper and use a coat hanger or something to hold it off to the side. You don't want to just let it hand down pulling on the fluild line.

You will need to have the hub pressed out to replace the stud so you might want to replace the wheel bearing while you are at it.

What do you mean it's shortened?

I'm asking because it's a common problem that the stud break off when they are overtightened frequently. They all seem to break at the same place too. There is a write-up someplace (I'm having problems finding it) that shows how to replace the stud if it has broken off like I am explaining - without removing the knuckle and pressing the hub off! I guess you could break the stud yourself with a grinder or saw... it's hard steel though so good luck.

this will show you how to get to the hub

http://www.performanceforum.com/wesv...b/rearhub.html

its for the rear but its the same idea

when you have the hub exposed and the caliper removed from the bracket rotate th hub so that the broken nut is in line with where the caliper would be, theres an opening in the guard that cover the back side of the rotor there, then gently tap it out of there, it will be slow but you dont want to beat on the hub assymbaly while its in the wheel bearing, once the broken one is out put the new one in from the back side and hammer it back in, once again gently, you could also just tighten the lug nut to pull it but youd need a bunch of washers to take up the space

id say thats a safe bet since they all have the same thread type for the most part, you could just get a set of ARP ones there like $11 for 4 i think and you wont wreck them in the future
