Loose timing belt - what can go wrong ???

That is a totally different question than you originally asked...
If your timing belt is loose, it could jump a tooth between the cam gears and the crankshaft, which will cause the cam timing to be out of whack and result in the car running like crap. If it jumps more than a few teeth, your valves and pistons could potentially collide. This may or may not cause catastrophic failure and render your engine useless.
How about you list the symptoms of the alleged loose timing belt?

symptoms of a loose timing belt, hmmmmm lemme think........
IT MIGHT BE LOOSE....
just go poke it on the exhaust cam side and see how much it moves
if you can move it more than 3/4 of an inch back and forth it should be tightened or replaced
but thats just a guess hey, it might be looser, and it could be fine, just keep driving it and see what it does in about a month
