I know I haven't updated my civic's little thread here in forever, but I can't seem to figure out how to remove the HVAC controls to test the switches, anf it looks like need to remove the radio and 'drop' the controls before removal through the space the radio would normally occupy.

...and I cannot seem to find a way to remove the radio! No screws on the side or anything, just 2 on the sides of the dash kit that I removed, and it's still stuck!

I also pulled the glovebox, and some bolts (8mm I think) and now I'm stuck as to pulling the fan itself for testing. I see the heater resistor, but if that were bad, it'd at least run on high.

p.s. I live in Michigan, so it's getting mighty chilly here! which makes it no fun to have a dd with no heat!

I just fixed my heater, Was doing the same thing with no blower motor. Its a PITA to get the motor out i think the only way is to beat down the fender well a little. but before you do that take a test light and check for power at the blower motor plug and see if it has power if it does check if it has ground, mine ended up being a bad ground

that picture there shows my least two favorite things I have fixed on my CRX. getting the heater/ac unit out is a serious pain. then I had to replace the blower motor. WOW! that was unbelievable how much time and mostly patience is required to do that job. I could only imagine what the dealer would charge for that job.

I just did this yesterday. It was pretty simple for me actually cause I removed all my AC stuff under the hood previously - so I just pulled the evaporator out first, once that is out the complete blower motor assembly slides over to the left and comes right out. Took about 20 mins to pull everything.

You would have to undo your AC lines though if you've got AC and loose all your freon to do it that way.

You should check your blower motor resistor. they usually go bad when they get wet etc.

where's the ground wire?

In my Jeep and a GrandAm I had, the fan would still work on high with a bad blower resistor. Are our Hondas different?

symptoms? Is the coolant circulating to the heater core? Did you check the air temperature selector valve (not sure what it's really called), etc. Or is it just the fan?

edit: as much as I despise hackjobs, even on winterbeaters, I might just have cut into the ducting and slip in this fan I have sitting around... It's a 110v (I'd use an inverter) fan that looks like an oversized PC cooling fan. It'll have ON or OFF but it's better than nothing. I'm thinking now of the best place to install the thing if it's not the blower resistor or a ground. ...that is, if I can find it. It's AWOL at the moment.

Sometimes the resistors will completely go bad. They can burn up or rust out. Just check for power to the resistor and then you will know your problem and check for 12v at the blower motor when the switch is on.
