I was coming home from school driving NORMAL, 60mph in 5th gear when the car suddenly shut off to which my immediate reaction was to put the car in neutral and let it coast to a stop i flashd me high beams to my friend who lives around the way and was driving infront of me and he stopped with me. We tried to start the engine again and after looking through the crack (I had the top and bottom portion of the timing belt cover on and the middle off) We saw the timing belt had WAY too much slack, when I pulled it it all came out. My timing belt snapped. Now I was wondering whether im fukd or not, I mean the motor just straight up shut off and i did put it in neutral, what are the chances that if i put a timing belt back on she'll be ok? I drive a 89 Si hatch with a b18b4. Thanks

i've heard people get lucky with a new belt, but it's like winning the lottery. chances are you bent some valves. put the belt on and check the compression...you'll know then

im not a honda master, but i think only the k series and f (s2000) series has that interface function. but they also has timing chains i belive.
not saying forsure. but thats my .02

I don't think a b18b4 exists, and all B18's are interference motors. Sorry dude. The good news is a b18 head nonvtec can be had for like 50 bucks complete.

yea its an intereference motor but if you get lucky it might be fine. this happened to a friend of a friend of mines car who had a b18a1. threw a new belt on it and it started right up no trouble at all.

welll believe it or not it exists, ill even take a pic of the forge and casting numbers for u, but yeah i also heard of a few people who got lucky, i hope i do cuz i dun have money right now...i need a 96+ head tho cuz 94-95 have the same head design as 90-93, for example the pcv valve on the intake manifold, my pcv is on the valve cover.

Automatic ones are less likely to bend valves because it's not forced to engine break like a manual version does if one leaves the car in gear and lets in coast down.

All 88-up Civic and Integra engines are interferance engines, as are *most* Accord, Prelude, etc. engines. 86-89 Accord/Prelude engines are not and don't even have a waterpump driven by the t-belt like all the other 88-up stuff.

Anyways toss a new belt and and see what happens. That's the best thing you can do. You can also pull the VC off and physically wiggle rocker arms and if a lot of them have play then you've got some bent valves.

Number 1 is the rocker - with the VC off grab each one (there are 16) and see how many feel loose.
