how hot does a valve cover get?
i'm thinking of stripping the paint off my valve cover and using duplicolor anodized paint (the candy apple red color). it can stand up to 500 degrees. just wondering if that's good enough for the valve cover. thanks. also how hot do the calipers get? thanks in advance.

for calipers, you'll want to prep them extremely well and get a 1200+ degree ceramic paint. for the valve cover, even normal spray paint will be okay, i have yet to see a problem caused by heat. just realize that with aerosol paint/cler, after time it will dull, so just be prepared to respray it.

Calipers can get hot...But I have very succesfully painted them numerous times with BC/CC....
Whatever the case prep is very important as well as proper cleaning.

yeah regular base/clear is something i've never tried on calipers, but i've been curious about. a friend of mine just did his Z32 calipers for his S14 240SX with base/clear at my work and he has yet to put them on so i wonder how it'll hold up.

On my old 83 GTI I have had teh rotors damn near glowing after abusing the car for a few hours at the track, and 1 caliper did slightly discolor..thats it though.

Your fine on the VC paint, hell i paint VC's with no primer or clear and shitty Wal-Mart paint and they still come out badass.
btw good choice for the paint color

hmm.. i just read the OP again and noticed that paint color also. definitely a good choice, turns out great for a rattle can job. here's a few old pics of my buddy's S13. he did a temporary job on his RB25 valve covers with the anodized candy red DupliColor paint.
