Knocking sound in suspension only in cold weather
On my gsr, when i go over bumps in cold weather i get a knocking type sound coming from the two front wheel areas. I had my car looked over by a mechanic, he said everything looked perfect(***** joints, tie rods, end links etc...) so maybe the struts are seizing in the cold? He didin't really sound to sure and i don't want to spend money and those struts end up not being the problem. Anybody got any other ideas?

some of the cheaper stuts out there do get affected by the weather....
Rain/ snow/ cold usually makes cheap struts noisy especially if u have drop springs on there...
I used to have some KYB AGX that used to be noisy when it got cold....switched to KONI Yellows problem went away ...

I had the same problem with my rear suspension in cold weather. I was using DropZone shocks and 2.5" lowering springs.
A lot of times it is a "problem" with the shock/strut, but sometimes it can also be loose components... just do a quick run through of all your bolts and nuts, make sure everything is tight before you start replacing things.

Yes its making a knock or clunk sound, metal hitting metal. The same type of sound you would get from bad ball joints or ends link(but those are good according to the mechanic at the shop). Its not the axles, though i did just have one replaced because it was knocking on turns. The knocking i am talking about here though occurs over bumps.

Like I said, mine did that in the rear. Cold weather sometimes effects the shocks, that's all...
Around here it drops below 30 below, so lots of things freeze up during the winter...

I don't mean freezing cold like that(though it does get worse in those temps.), but more like 10 celcius it gets pretty bad. I guess thats like 50 degrees in the states.

That's not even that cold. Could be suspension bushings making noise. Can you produce the noise if you jounce the front suspension while the car is parked? Pop the hood and push down on the radiator support area above each headlight. My front upper control arm bushings make creaking noises when I do that.

My buddy has a couple good struts left from when he upgraded his suspension on his ls. Right now i have type r struts and springs. So if i used them ls struts with my type r springs, will that change the ride height up front any? Right now its even all the way around and thats the way i like it. I am just hoping those struts won't raise the fender gap.

Ok its not the struts, took it to a shop and showed me that there was some play in the lower ball joints so replaced them. Still getting the clunking over bumps. One thing i notice is when i am stopped and i turn the steering wheel back a forth i get the same type of knocking sound out of the suspension. So what would be doing that?
