How much does a good valve job cost? (searched)
Well I'm in need of a valve job. And I've searched and couldn't find a topic on how much they normally run. Also I have some engine skills, so I was wondering how hard and what tools are necessary to do the valve job on your own? But honestly what prices should I look out for? I went to one shop so far and got quoted $1100.... and to be honest i think that's a rip off... but who am i to judge since i don't know a good price. Some insight will be very appreciated.

You need a machine shop to perform the valve job for you. Do you need guides and seats replaced? Are they putting angles on the valve seat?
What all did that $1,100 include?
Call some other places and get some quotes.

Well only thing the shop had told me after inspecting the car, was that my valves are sticky... But didn't tell me what would be replaced and or what does the cost include. This shop has been a shop I've been going to for 3 years now and my father for almost 14 years. So they are well respected by me, but I was just wondering if there might any other shops that normally charge cheaper. Cause $1100 to me is expensive, especially up front.

no doubt that is a lot of money. Since your family seems to have a good relationship with them, there is no harm in calling them and asking them exactly what they are going to do.

Does that price include them removing and installing the head? If so, that seems fair. If you can remove and install the head yourself, then I suggest you contact 'Combustion Contraption' from here. You're not to far from his shop.

Sounds reasonable. And yea i am capable of removing and installing the head. And yes he will be removing the head to do the valve job. So i was just wondering if he was just trying to get more money out of us. And you said Combustion Contraption? where are they located?

Cant say enough good things about this guy. Great prices and great work. I have had him do quite a bit of work for me including porting a couple sets of head. One for my last lsv and a couple sets for small block fords. Plus I always get the homeboy hookup. Im guessing that for a 1/3 of the price that the shop was going to charge you could have the head rebuilt and ported..
