Push Button Start and Kill Switch / Ignition Bypass
As the title reads:
Let me first start by saying that I am familiar with electricals, but have never tampered with an ignition.
Here is the background:
1994 Accord: Saw used car... bought used car... someone tried to steal used car... f-ed up the ignition to where it was nearly impossible to turn it... turned it once... key broke off... Cant remove from accessory position... battery dies.
that being said... i would like to bypass the ignition switch altogether and have a kill switch and a push button start. How would I go about acheiving this???

***edit to add: I would rather bypass the ignition than get a new one and re-key the rest of the vehicle

there is a guy that sells s2000 push start with or without key immobilizer for 110.00 shipped. plug and play too.
otherwise if you diy, you will need the button, relay and that wiring knowledge you say you already have.

hope this help,,, withyour electronic back ground, hope U understand this.
Put a manual switch at constant 12 and accessory
Put another swith at accessory to ignition
Put a push start button at ignition and starts.
the two switches has to be on at all time to keep the engine running.
To shut if off, switch 2 and then switch 1 off.

Instead of installing switch(s), relay and wiring for everything. Won't it be easier to replace the ignition switch with an used one ?
Remove plastic covers. Us a center punch to remove the studs (2) at lower bracket of switch. Install replacement one with two 8 x 1.25x 20 mm bolts. it's easy and safer.

i wanted to avoid having to re-key everything... but now that i think about it, i never lock it anyways. Perhaps that would be the best route.
As for the ignition bypass... i was poking around and came to the same conclusion, that I would most likely need two switches as kill switches...

cant the ignition just be re-keyed to your current key? Im sure that can be done by you or possibly someone with more lock knowledge.

It would be pretty easy.
Just need one toggle switch for ignition, and one intermittent switch for starter.
You just emulate what the key switch does. Turn on ignition switch, then press starter button.
Heck, I think they sell starter switches at JC Whitney all set to go. I once temporarily improvised this setup when I had a BMW with a frozen key switch, and I have installed one in a boat.
No relay needed (they are already downstream of key switch). Any 14-year-old car thief can tell you that!
Just get the key switch diagram from a shop manual, and you will be able to tell which wire to run where.

ok thanks i think im going to do the same thing... unless i can keep the key in the ignition in the on position hidden under my driver seat and hav a toggle switch and push to start button where my ignition use to be... any suggestions anyone....

I'd say if you never lock your car, get it rekeyed. Although I have two accords of the same generation (94-95) and the keys will start both cars. Otherwise, you could hide the ignition switch as another switch, like an extra horn button or other unused switch in your car.

You will need a toggle switch and a push button switch with on/off terminals and connect your switches to the 7-p connectror on the underdash fuse/relay box witch is used for the ignition switch harness. Connect the pins with the correspoding colors of the ignition switch harness.
The toggle switch will turn the whole ignition system on or off.
When the push button switch is not pressed, a and b connected and c and d disconnected witch set the ignition system to II. When puth button switch is pressed, a and b disconnected and c and d connected witch set the ignition system to Start (III). You do not need relays because you are using the relays on the car.
Sorry for the urgly draws. But just want to show the idea.

Can you explain that diagram a little better? What do i connect to the 7p connector, just that toggle switch? And where is the ignition harness located? Thanks.

You will not connect to the 7-pin connector which goes to the ignition switch. Connect the switches to the corresponding pins on the fuse/relay box. These two switches will only simulate the electrical function of the ignition switch. You will still need the car key for the lock function and warning function unless you modify the ignition switch.

So, I would have to disconnect the harness going to the ignition and then connect the wires in place of it?
And what we are trying to do is totally bypass having to use a key. The ignition is messed up and the key is so loose that the car turns off while driving. So, instead of getting a new ignition assembly we just want to start the car using a push button start. Is this even possible? Thanks for all the help.

I actually have a push button on my cb7. I just purchased a switch from Autozone, ran one wire to the battery the other to the starter, and put the button in a secret location so now when I start my car I have to turn the switch on and push the button and the car starts. The only problem is if you forget to turn the car to the on position you may damage the starter...Good luck!

www.the12volt.com will tell you all the wire colors.
unplug or cut all the wires free from the broken ignition switch. Then connect the ignition wires and accessory to the battery with 2 separate switches. You don't want the accessories draining power when you try to start.
Then for a push button use this diagram.

The little box with the numbers is a relay. U need it for the start button.

So you said two wire up two separate switches for the ignition and accessory. Should I follow the diagram in the post above yours by billyrusa? If not how do I wire up the the other 2 switches?

1.You buy a relay at the auto parts store for the start button. (12v wire is white)
(a relay is used to keep the push button from burning out)
2.One switch** goes to Black/Yellow stripe as well as white/black stripe and 12v(white).
(this is the switch you flip to turn on the car)
Now push the start button.
3.The other switch** goes to yellow(thick wire) and 12v(white).
(this is for the radio and stuff)
(**very high current switches should be used)
