Default How many miles after the gas light comes on?

I used the search tool and couldn't come up with anything...so here goes.

I was driving to work today and the gas light came on at around 322 miles on my current tank. Has this happened to anybody, and how many gallons are left in my tank, or how many miles can i go before it runs out?

Most Hondas of the past had a 3 gallon reserve when the light was constant. My first Honda was an 82 Accord and it was in the owners manual about the light meaning it had a 3 gallon reserve. But with a gas saver like the Fit I'd say 2 gallons if you want to play it safe till there is more info on this.

But I try to fill up when the light comes on.

I usually fill up as soon as the light comes on, which takes me between 8.6-8.9 gallons. The Fit tank is a 10 gallon tank.

I'm pretty sure I read in the owners manual that there is supposed to be ONE gallon in the "reserve".

When I fill up after the light comes on, it's usually about 9.5 gal. I wouldn't do more than 30-35 miles with the light on.

I've had my fit for a whole tank and a half now... i threw in a few bucks today, i've been smashin everywhere, so its hard to get the great fuel economy. Next tank i'm goin light though, shootin for 40+!

All rise for the reading from the Owners' Manual. Today, we read from page 62 of the '08 manual.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">When the indicator comes on, there is about 1.7 US gal (6.3L) of fuel remaining in the tank before the needle reaches E. There is a small reserve of fuel remaining in the tank when the needle does reach E.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Please be seated.

That, though, doesn't answer the second part of your question. How many miles you can go depends on you and your car. Averaging 35mpg, you can go 60 miles or so before you reach the 'E' mark, with that "small reserve" left.

I've had the light come on once. We drove another 50 miles before I filled up, because I absolutely refuse to use Jefferson county (KY) gas. (*) Now I wish I'd kept better records as to how many gallons I put in.

(*) That reformulated crap they sell in Louisville costs an average of 25 cpg more and averages 3 mpg less than the gas I buy just outside Fort Knox.

the first fill up i ever had on my fit was 10.5 gallons I guess i cut it a bit close. i always wait for the light and usually get between 9.5 to 10 gallons so i's say about 45-60 miles

That's usually what I do. Reset the trip button and make sure i get my as to a station before 35 comes up on the dash because i thought it comes on when there was exactly 1 gal. left.

...and now that I see there should be 1.7 gal. left in the tank, i wont stress out so much.

The most I have driven after the gas light has come on is 85.1miles but I achieved 56.3mpg on that tank. I didn't know how much I had left but I filled up with 10.7gallons of gas.

We've had our Fit Sport for about 3 months now and we've averaged 37.6 mpg. Worst tank we ever had was 34.3 and best was 40.7. It's a 5 speed and I have the tires at 46 psi F/42 psi R. I shift at 3-4K in the Fit since it revs so quickly and haven't started cutting the engine at stoplights or anything, plus my wife drives it in stop/go city traffic all the time. I'm shooting for 42 or at least an average of 38+, but 56 is insane... is that right?

lol cause it reminds me how painful it will be to my wallet dumb gas prices so high. if gas was like a $1.__ something still itll be like a kids allowance could pay for the full tank! you know what i mean hah. but NNOOOOOO US waits till gas is nearly 4-5 bucks to finally realize that "hmmm maybe its a smarter idea going economical and environmental friendly" then building ridiculous gas eating machines that looks like it was meant for crushing cars rather than for being for the normal "soccer moms" etc. haha.

The Fit's mpg goes down hill after about 65-70 mph. The gearing is so short that you are in high rpms (for this engine). Rpms kill mpg, as well as wind resistance.

I know there are people getting 24-26 mpg in thier fits, I would imagine this is from driving too fast and accelerating too quickly.
